Just that. I'm experimenting with wood extraction, and obviously for that one needs trees. I'm looking for a forest.
Well, Arkadia isn't called the "green planet" for nothing. But then, sometimes it's hard to see the forest for the trees. No I'm not giving you my own spot.
Trees with little yellow nodes shining on them I like - found a few, not many at all. But I assume this is only because I am new here & have not really ventured far (yet )
Patches of woodland in grassy areas. Seems each patch has some trees - seems 2 or even 3 You see the gold node, walk to it & look around - you will probably see another. They are there but rather sparse
Happy to help those folks starting off harvesting. Have done quite a bit on Arkadia and some on Caly. One very easy place to access is right outside of Celeste Quarry. Easiest to spot the trees if you go out when it is night (dark). Plenty of trees in the surrounding area to find.
I think the trees around Celeste Quarry are the best to harvest that I have found so far, and there are plenty of harvestable ones. I have only noticed that type of tree growing there. Has anyone seen that particular type of tree growing anywhere else?
Louise, So far on Ark, I have found (2) types of trees that can be harvested. The white birch type trees in the quarry area are one type and the second type are the more standard looking trees brown w green leaves. Unfortunately I am not on Ark at the moment or I would post a picture of theme here.
Thank you Dajuggernaut there are maybe 3 types even - the other two seem 2 have different bark. I have posted pics of them & indeed all my lumberjacking activities in the Calypso forum. Sadly Calypso seems to have a bigger range of harvestable trees than Arcadia. I did a lot of lumberjacking - hoping to take advantage of the anticipated boom in housing materials, but I found that its composite planks that are needed & I lack the crafting skills at this stage. I am doggedly grinding my way through Orotan prospectors to eventually, sometime, maybe, when the cows come home get myself a Dropship - am a bit over halfway through the thieves
Louise, you found a 3rd type of tree on Ark? On Caly I have found (4) different types at least. Though I don't think that purports to Caly having a bigger range of harvestable trees unless you are talking about variety only. However, I have also found that Caly has a much larger amount of "unharvestable" - harvestable trees. Meaning that the node is not accessible.
Certainly about variety, and those recalcitrant trees can be harvested - its due to the tree being too big, on a slope or their shape (with growths sticking out which stops you getting close enough). Move slowly around the tree a bit at a time, - that usually works. Or as a last resort, go to options & uncheck the "move to target" box. Make sure you check it again as soon as you have the timber thou
I have had a few big hits on composites. I mention this because it is the end of the road for moonleaf. Why collect them? I take out my php-1(L) and pull it once if it is a lvl 1 tree, to clear the tree for respawn. If it is a lvl 2 or three, I use the UL Php-3. then I press p and record the tree. I have a spreadsheet with a rudimentary map of 200 ark trees. When I need ped, I run the composite bp until all the long boards are gone. Then I tt everything but the res. Really. Ive already paid for all my harvesting with a good hit on composites. All of it. By the way, it is awesome to harverst while you mine. Slower paced. More just enjoying the outdoors.
I have been concentrating on Space & on the Orotan Prospectors mission - have not done that much harvesting lately. Trees respawn quickly but not necessarily the same type. There is a tree not that far from Redoubtable FB can be a L tree, but also can respawn as a S one. While trees respawn very quickly, the harvest they give depends on how long since they were last harvested. What do you mean by "end of the road for Moonleaf' Happy Hipster? They aren't growing anymore or there is no use for the timber?
I mean there is one blueprint that uses it. So no matter how much you harvest, if you dont tt the boards, and they dont get tt'd, they will be composites.
ok I understand now maybe it would have been better to say if you are not prepared to make composite planks, you may as well just tt the wood. Which is a worry for me as I had been stockpiling wood to make composite planks - aren't they profitable ( I have not got around to checking yet)
