    Hi,

I'd appreciate any input on an issue I've been having with sound in EU since I got a new laptop with Windows 10. I think Windows 10 is important here because I used the exact same setup with a Windows 7 laptop for years without problems. The laptop is connected via HDMI to an external monitor with speakers. The expected result is that all sound goes through the external monitor and it works, except for EU (other games work fine). If I run EU fullscreen with the monitor hooked up I get no sound from EU at all, not even on the login screen. This does not stop anything else from playing sound just fine (music player, some video etc.). I have tried disabling all sound playback devices except HDMI, but EU seems intent on not using it...

I've found two ways to get sound working. One is to use Window mode and the other is to unplug the monitor, run EU (normal sound from laptop speakers), plug in the monitor (sounds still through the laptop speakers) and then disable the playback device for laptop speakers (sound through monitor).

Has anyone else had this or similar issue? Have you solved it? How?

right mouse on the speaker icon something like "open mixer"
Check if EU isn't muted there.

I think its new that you can have diff. settings for diff. programs.

For the very sort time I had Windows 10 on my system, I had sound issues as well. I fixed them by going into settings and running a sound test. After that all applications seemed to have the same volume. Remember you do have 30 days to go back to your old system.

Thanks for your input. No, EU isn't muted and all the applications are already at full volume.

I did notice one thing though. Tomb Raider 2013 has two options for fullscreen: Fullscreen and Exclusive Fullscreen. The regular Fullscreen works fine, but I get no sound from TR if I use the Exclusive Fullscreen option. I guess this issue is not EU-specific but rather something changed in the way Windows handles sound output depending on the method of generating a fullscreen picture.

    Two things might be happening.
1-output device might be setted to speakers. Right click speaker on tray and set it from there.
2-you might have a faulty HDMI cable. Notice that it might work on other devices. It has to do with thickness of the connector. Some times due staying too much time attached, it also get rust. So the true way to test it, is replacing for a new one. Hope it helps.

Thanks for the suggestions, but this problem is different. Output device is HDMI and I did try another cable. It must be some weird compatibility issue with my setup. The best workaround I found so far is to start the game in Window mode and then switch to fullscreen while logged in. A bit of a hassle but sounds work normally this way.

    Hello stranger.

I have the same setup as you, laptop+external screen. It always worked fine until last week when I suddenly had no sound at all when the HDMI was connected. After yesterday's patch it works fine again. Go figure.

Interesting, thanks, maybe the problem will resolve itself then.
