Technically not possible. MA would need to change the way you can buy things and this is more than unlikely to happen.

If they make a bug in the buy system, they are screwed. They will not touch it, because, as you can see in every VU. if they touch the system, it always breaks at an end they did not touch.

How about having shops that have a larger floor space and the outside display back wall area is a see throught to the inside.
Shops with one floor space and not side narrow space would be great.
Shops with the space outside to have 2 shopkeepers and a ad screen displayed
Shops that could have sub spaces in them for groups or societies to sell from their space seperate from the others.
Shops that you can add color to walls and ceilings
    Shops that crisp lighting
Shops that have a single color on floors and not tissy designs, not dark colors..
Shops that look like real shops in any mall in real life, something with a moden style yet clean and crisp.
    Shops with no stairs
Shops in malls should have TP's both ends on each level
Shops in malls need to have less clutter in center traffic space
Lighting needs to be in malls on the celing line and not hanging down.

just a few ideas and issues i have noticed as a multi shop owner..

Looking inside etc is a performance problem for most machines. The more items you can see when entering a place, the more items, textures etc need to be loaded... this takes on older machines several minutes if it's too many items.

Mabe renting would be the solution, no buying, just renting of shops or apartements. That would completely illiminate speculation and reseling, there would be no point in haveing 20 shops or apartements unless you are gona use them because you could not resell them at a profit and they would just be a constant drain of ped for the rent.

Then if you don't want the place anymore, just take your stuff out and just don't pay anymore and the place would automaticaly be back up for rent. It could even be coded that if a person forgets to take their stuff out that it automaticaly gets transfered back to their storage when the term expires.

Mabe you could even have a real time directory of the available shops and apartements, so pepole would'nt have to run all over checking the estate markers to see if the place is rented.

    Just my two cents :)

    Shop directory:
good for customers bad for economy. When you enter in a shop you can also looking for items you were not interestd about and decide to buy them. With the directory this will be not possible no more. No more shop...decoration: why visit a nice shop when you have a directory? MV down for each item, direct competition with auction will let price go down more, bad for crafters, miners and hunters. ad system down: why advice a shop when there is a shop directory? no one will no more use the in game ad system. If you have a shop directory, so a direct competitin with auction, why i must buy a shop when i can just sell by auction?

In real life owner invest in shop advisment (pubblicity), and you pay for ads, grafic, rent pubblicity space etcetc. I think that this is the way to go. I also think that, despite i like it, the auction ruin the shops system. If you don t shot down the auction (expecially between planets) no shops will be ever very competitive. I know that many people, me too, love to fast sell and buy items by auction, expecially considering that many of us don t spend a lot of time in game. But auction it works just because we are getting used to it. Without auction i will savve my prefered shops to buy mining gear, hunting gear etcetc i will forced to contact traders to sell my items and this will create new jobs and complessity in game.

The point is that shops system will be never developped like in real life when there is an easier way to sell and buy: the auction. The two system cannot work in the same time. Or you shot down the shops or you shot down the auction.

If you read my post again you will see that I was talking about a shop directory of shops that would be available to rent, so as to facilitate the renting of the unit, since shops themselves would not be listed on the auction because I was talking about a situation where shops were not for sale, not a directory of what the shop sells.

    shop :)

Personally I would like something like an open market place, where each shop has an inside room as well. I think something like cape corinth is more fun then a mall, but the design of cape corinth is from like ages ago, and its possibilities are too limited. I think a shopping area could consist of a circular market, each like 16 shops or so (2 of these around Arkadia), with minimal design, but high customizability. This means putting tables/racks etc etc in front of your shop, painting/texturizing walls,... you name it.

Something very important is a high item count, say 400items/shop, (bp sellers hello :)

    Most important: No Monthly Fee!

Right next to the tp, but no tp iside it (that would be bad for fps)

I am very happy about David's post. if we get a large number of shops, the prices fall from release to release, not the other way around... and that's a good thing, thanks!

Being new to this game/EU, I do not know the ins and outs about shops / real estate ... But from what I can sense with all these replies, it seems like there is a out cry for a "general market" w/o all the expensive upkeep fees that paves the way for only the rich can monopolize.

    Hence ...

    A Market sell/buy feature:
    1. Global listing, like auctions
    2. The seller can list any qty for sale, buyer can buy any qty from 1 to max listed in the order
    Seller lists 50 of mod A at 10 PED - Buyer can buy 1, 5, 20, or all 50 at 10 PED.
Buy order will be the same, just reversed
    3. Arkadia will charge for a % based listing fee, call it broker fee, or whatever you wish, based on total transaction value. ie: 500 PED @ 2%, with 1 PEC being the min fee.
3a. Arkadia will also charge for a sales tax, where the buyer will have to pay.
    4. Order creator should be given the ability to select the listing period: 1D, 1W, 1M
    5. Order Creator should be given the ability to modify the listed price based on market trend: ie: 10 PED -> 11 PED due to hot demand, or 10 PED -> 9.50 PED due to lesser demand. Akadia will charge another fixed broker fee for price modifications, ie: 10 PEC. This feature should have a time limit, ie: 30 mins time limit between price mods by seller.

This is different then the current auction, but it will encourage true trading amongst the players. But yet, not limited "trading" to only the well off and rich players like the current auction may.

(NOTE: This idea isn't new and is currently used in EVE Online.)

    Hey!

My 2 pecs worth! I think the issues with shops on calypso is they are all over the damn place. To "go shopping" is frankly a pain in the rear end, different floors, different towns, half empty, most over priced etc etc. I'd rather just right click the auction. For it to be worth me going through all the hassle of flitting about all over the planet I'd have to make a good saving by doing so and that just doesn't happen.

So my suggestion, would be to have a market town. Forget a few shops dotted about here and there. Make shopping and running a shop a proper profession by setting up a market town, with all the usual town stuff like TP, terminals etc but its THE place to go to shop. One town like one terminal for the auction. It can support everything from market stalls to larger stores, perhaps even an area for people to just rent a spot to put a shop keeper down if they can't afford a shop. Not only does this mean the experience of shopping is far easier for the buyer but the close proximity of the shops would have a self regulating effect on sellers in terms of not setting ridiculous prices (which just puts buyers of even bothering to go look as you end up thinking as I do "whats the point it will only be over priced I'll just use the auction").

So a market town is my suggestion, plenty of ad boards, all shapes and sizes of stores and stalls to give everyone a go no matter what they make or sell. It also worth thinking about what people sell currently when thinking about the shop designs as some of the current shops are completely inappropriately designed for some items. It'll get a social aspect to it too (don't forget a bar) as we'll all be shopping at the same place - just look at Twin Peaks and how people hang out there ... its no coincidence it has emerged as a player created buying/selling hub.

    Slappy

I agree, the shops were a good move in the right direction, but a well designed bigger kind of mall would be perfect, especially if there are no shops anywhere else on the planet. Ppl would go there way more often, just to browse by. And this would also result in less empty shops.

I love the idea of a market.

Find a tax free suitable place and hire stalls to people, kinda like the farmers markets from RL.

Hold a market once a month/fortnight, only market holders can trade within the market boundaries.
The biggest problem I could see with it might be lag, but it would be fun to wander the stalls, haggle the prices with the stall holders etc.
A fun day out for all.

    My thoughts;
    1. Shop sizes 200, 400, 600 item points. Why? So many item points are lost to shop keepers, signs, display furniture etc.
    2. Larger display fronts, 30-40 item points. Why? Allows you to advertise your shop better with good signs and items. Again 5-10 isnt enough.
    3. I agree with the rental system, rather than owning and some players not using/claiming the shop. Keep a 3 monthly rental fee, which if isnt paid the owner loses the shop and their items returned to their inventory.
    4. A shop must be active. Appoint some avatars to oversee a number of shops each. If they see a shop not being used, they report it to Cyrus and he can enquire with the owner as to why they are not using the shop. If the owner is not using it properly, they are evicted and a new owner can lease the shop.
    5. A lease on the shop can be claimed with a bond. This allows competition for the shops in auction, the winner is the highest bond. They then just have to pay their rent and meet the requirements.

These features would prevent the empty shops like there are at Twins, Emerald (Whole 3rd floor), PA, Booths at Corinth etc etc

    Cheers
    Bjorn

    @FewScars:
Would be one of the better ideas to force shop owners to work with their shops. But that#s already discussed and will not happen, all trades are final, and A-Team is not able to claim back deeds.

This would need a total change of the deed system... and we know, MA will not do anything on this side.

What is needed is a rentable deed system, that way the investors could buy the deeds to the shops the first time round and then allow them to be rented out. That way everyone gets a bite of the cherry and the shops still get used instead of standing empty for ever.

Also MA needes to make a decision on estates that are currently locked away in banned/locked accounts. I'm sure there are plenty of people around that would like the opportunity to make an attempt at running their own LA or owning their own shop/apartment/house etc.

I think the more shops the better - if you only make a few shops they will be uses as investment and not to sell items / loots etc from.

So make a lot so maybe everybody can have a shop - this will help a lot on the economi on your planet and that is a very important part - specially after the introducing of space and intergalaxis trade.

If a shop cost like 1-2k peds then all could have one and help with the trading
