I was reading forums this morning and something from Calypso forum intrigued me.
Someone wrote that one should not hunt mobs with level higher than Evader profession level. I understand that, it makes sense to skill Evade on one mob and then move to another of higher level.

Thing is I started on Carabok here and now I am almost level 2 Evader, not much I know, but its a start. What is confusing for me is for example:

Carabok is L4 with 10 HP and if I am not wrong damage 3, danger level 4 (I guess this is mob level) and threat 3.

Gallard is L0 with little more HP, damage should be same - 3, but threat is 6.

What is this threat? When I am swunting Carabok usual I am able to swunt 3 of them before I need to make pause to regenerate.

Is it easier to swunt Gallard or Carabok and which of those is better for skilling Evade? Should I start on L0 Gallard then move to something L1 and later on Carabok?

    Please post your opinions.

Theoretically, what you read/heard is correct and in most cases is a good rule to follow; however that's not always true.

And caraboks are a good example where this is not true - they have only one maturity (punny) and they were designed especially to be newbie friendly (reason why they are located inside academies too)... consider them a gift from Arkadian devs.

Caraboks used to be higher level mobs. Once I had a player tell me that the levels of creatures don't matter. Never look at the levels to figure out if the mob is right for you to hunt or not. But (!) the advice I was given is that you want an x amouhnt of evade that is higher than the level of the creature you are hunting.

Say, you want to hunt a level 10 creature, you want to aim for level 12-14+ evade.

When it comes to Puny creatures (<15 hp) don't bother too much about the levels of the creatures and the evade levels. Puny creatures are meant for new players who don't have/need armor just yet. Puny creatures are there for new players, and for players to figure out if they want to get into hunting or not and provide said players with initial skills.

When it comes to comparing threat from the creatures, numbers mean jack. Look at your radar, inner circle is fine for low hp mobs. The higher their HP, the further out you need to be not to aggro them from range.

For the question of Gallard vs Carabok swunting I'd say it's easier to swunt Carabok. Gallards hit harder and will interrupt your sweat extraction more than a Carabok does, and if you're anything what I used to be, avatar-wise, you'll get really annoyed really fast by constant hits and lack of extraction.

I´d go with carabok. Some tests have show some correlation between a creatures Danger Level and the amount of skill gains and the skill gain size. Although this is very hard to test properly and therefor very hard to know conclusively.

If given a choice between two mobs of seemingly the same difficulty where one has higher Danger Level than the other I´d go with the higher one every single time (in regards of skill gains. naturally there could be different reasons for choosing the other way around i.e. markup)

That is however just the way I see things :)

Thank you all for answers, all of them was useful. I will stick to Carabok for now. With sweat I get decent returns and Evade growth is nice.

I was just take a look at Entropedia and there is something interesting. There is baby Nusul with only 10 HP compared to his bigger brethren who has 330+ HP. I suppose those Puny Nusuls don't drop Corria Timber as big ones do? If they do thinking of farming them for Viceroy part.

If you play sensible and not TT loot at all and try to get some MU on everything, you should be ok to collect all the materials needed for the viceroy before you would actually need the armor. There is a topic on the forum somewhere where there is a full list of all materials needed for the viceroy.
