These few days have been quite a lull, so I took on a little side project as a distraction. Sure, it's cool to own something in-game, but having one in real life would be pretty awesome too. So, as a start, I thought I'd try 3D modelling a detailed version of the Sleipnir, using the low-poly in-game 3D model as a reference. Hopefully I'll be able to 3D print myself a miniature version once I'm done.

(I hope posting this isn't a violation of the forum rules. If so, please feel free to lock this. :( )

As long as you dont disclose how you obtained the original model you should be fine. This is looking pretty nice so far, almost looks like a repair manual sketch.

Nah, the original model is just a reference. I'm modelling this from scratch.

A few years ago, when I was creating papercrafts of some Entropia Stuff I started doing it. But then I got busy on other things and abandoned the project.

There is software you can use to take a 3D screenshot inside a game. No need to do anything against the rules.

Technically that would be against the TOS as well.

Yup! I saw your thread a while back. I'm quite a fan of papercraft myself and needless to say, I've spent more time than I should have unfolding 3D models. Regarding the software to take 3D screenshots, someone asked MA about the legality of it, and they replied that it was allowed as long as it was for private, non-commercial purposes. (link)

Done with the front leg. This was a real pain to model, due to its complex shape. I expect that I'll face the same difficulty with the back leg too. I'll be adding axles to the legs once everything is complete, so that I can move them around.

Completed the back half of the side piece, plus the back leg. Whew.

It's been a pretty slow week for progress. Did up the rear exhausts. Not much details to add onto those unfortunately, so they're pretty plain.

Mindark didn't design the sleipnir, it was a stock model they got from somewhere. If you look in the right place you can probably get it without having to reverse engineer it. Nice work though. :)

Thanks! Personally I tried searching to no avail, since looking for a specific model of a VTOL on the internet is like finding a needle in a haystack. I can't say if they used a stock 3D model until I see it for myself, but I do at least know that the design was influenced by a number of VTOL predecessors. Nonetheless, the main goal in this for me is to work on my 3D modelling skills while killing time, so I don't mind either way. :)

Whoops! I took another look at the in-game Sleipnir and realised there actually are a bunch of details on the back thrusters, so I went ahead and added those in. :D

Thanks! I'll see if I can pull off a rendering once it's all complete. :D

Oh wow, that's an awesome find. Looks like MA took one of those spaceships, remodelled the body and cockpit, and did a retexturing. It's too bad that those models look like they're optimized for in-game use though, so they seem about as low-poly as the ones in EU.

I certainly recognize the first ship (the F-53) in that link from old videos of PE on Caly.
And there's a figurine of the F-53 at Chug's Hideout.

The 2nd ship in link is really close, I have to agree
But Lightz version is very cool & shows all kinds of details, can't wait to see what section gets done next.
