Simplest way would be for Universal Ammo to be made TT-able.

A lot of things could be a lot simpler, but if taken to the extreme we'd be a rather drab bunch grinding away at useless tasks while only pretending to play a game. I just think it adds a great deal to the enjoyment of the game, if every such measure gets designed so that it makes sense in its context as much as possible. This is what I tried with the above suggestion. It does make a difference to the 'feel of logic' even in a wildly illogical virtual world, and you feel listened to and cared for and all warm and fuzzy.

If universal ammo was TT-able there would be no point to its existence.

    Wouldn't It Be Loverly?
Though MA's answer would probably just be a resounding "NO":

It would be nice, but MA has used it for too many things as a measure to stop ped farmers. Even in this case its a good idea due to the alpha card drop. It would be very easy to just sit and farm cards from turning in key 1s if you didnt end up with a ton of ped tied up in unTTable stuff.

For now I will be trying to keep at least 1 key and 1 mini key of each type on the auction. I'm not sure if its sustainable but might as well give it a try with my shiny new 100 qr bps :woot:

For Melee users there is another work-around, that's easier than the complicated stuff I thought of before. [IMG]

Since the Mini Keys are tradable; you only need the help of 1 gun-toting hunter friend for 1 minute.

    - Sell the Aakas Key to your friend for the TT value.
    - (S)he takes it to Bert Wilhelm the NPC, and converts the Key for a Mini Key and UA.
    - Then trades you back the 1 pec Mini Key, and bids you a friendly goodbye.

So in the end: (s)he has the use of the UA, and has a chance to loot an Alpha Card for the effort.
While you as a Melee user can run the Instance, without having Universal Ammo that's useless to you.

Does help ofc if your helper needs UA, and is a trustworthy friend.

Or they could just stop assuming that everyone always uses ranged weapons and give us something that we all can use without hassle. Something that is TTable. Or PED/PEC for that matter.

Yeah that would be nice, but unfortunately it seems that the group/voice of Melee users is not big/loud enough to be heard and taken into consideration?

Actually, I wonder how many Melee users there really are at the moment.
Even though there are less new Melee weapons brought out, compared to Ranged weapons: it seems to be gaining in popularity a bit?
Are Starters choosing Melee more often than before, since Melee Amps have been introduced?
At least: when I started, Melee was strongly advised against, from all sides.
But now I often hear it listed as a realistic hunting profession option.
(And if I would start EU right now, I would go Melee all the way.)
So, is Melee on the rise?
Or is that just a coincidental view from my little corner of the (EU) world?

There are advantages and disadvantages to using melee. If you embrace the advantages you must also accept the disadvantages.

There are a lot of mission rewards for melee - I dont activly skill the proffession but am level 25 melee on some and have most melee unlocks due to other proffessions and skill rewards - you then just think oh well may as well grab a sword and swing it ;) or an axe or a bukins blade also strenght and health gains with melee are worth doing I know pets are there and you might choose to do a skill buff but then there are other sides that like normal natural skills shal we say.

Also Melee has a lot and lot of unlimited weapon chioces and thats a nice change to L L L when your grinding ;P it is nice to own somehting and they have the sib ranges on melee that are suitable and easy to make choices on skilling.

I can understan all ark weapons but ask me about a caly equivelent and i would soon be hitting entropedia and clue less - so helpfull to have xxx-xxx- 0 rather than name name name ;)

well, recently i did lots of melee too. i do have 3 bukins cuz i like to have the unL stuff. ;)
most of my hp comes from mining but melee sure does raise it fast. and since you have a bit more healing costs your paramedic raises too

overall i´d assume its a nice way to go starting a hunting career...

There are a LOT of melee users, the number exploded with the release of melee amps, though it was on the rise even before that. I would not be surprised if 50% of hunters regularly use melee in one form or another.

Question is if those possible 50% are melee only. If they are not then they'll probably gladly take UA as reward. Sure, I use guns/rifles as taggers but I really do not need as much UA as we currently get.

The only disadvantage I see with melee is that there's not much variety in weapons, and the majority are from Caly. I currently use Psy-Blade and Combat Knife, which will eventually allow me to max out Bukin's Blade. A part of me worry about the future because I can't use these weapons forever. The other doesn't because it will be an unknown while before I have finished all the puny missions and move on to more dangerous things.

On topic though. The work-around is nice but it doesn't make me want to work my bum off to become more skilled so that I can go to Aakas if I get UA returned.

I must say; if you as a melee user don't have use for UA, you are doing it wrong.

You should have a tagger to pick mobs, and a MF chip, rifle or handgun to inflict damage until it reaches you and then pick up your main weapon.

yeah most would see it that way but for me when I'm trying to skill melee I'd rather not cycle my peds on a weapon I have no interest in skilling.
Of course some sutuations leave no option but to use a tagger/Pre damager.
That may be just me though.

If you are hunting at a really low density spawn I can understand you'd want to deal all damage with your main weapon, however, most people are not.

If you have a good spawn you'll get faster kills which means more kill bonuses, and you'll work through missions faster to get the rewards, and you'll have less decay on armor and fap.

The ranged skills can be nice for melee users as well; there is some hp to fetch and one day you might get tired of swinging a club. ;)

I'd say a tagger at the very least should be used by melee hunters.

Well for me its important to spend every possible pec I can cycle in to the skill I want to gain.

I certainly can see the appeal with ranged ( I skilled Rifle/Pistol in Laser and BLP to level 50+ before switching to melee) and I do use a tagger when I have to but if I can just run into the spawn like a mad man then its gonna be melee all the way.

Besides that my tagger would never need that much UA and I'd be stuck with it.

Personally I will just buy the mini keys if I want to run one.

Nice, so the Melee use really is on the rise. :biggrin2:
Hopefully that will be reflected in the weapons too.
Like besides the Short and Long blades, some Power Fists, Clubs and Axes too?
And perhaps even... new Ark Melee Blueprints??
