You do not own an estate you buy nor the contents in it!

    Hi,

I would like to let people know what can happen if you buy a (planet) estate especially if furnished.
    Here is the story:

On the 20th of august I purchased an apartment on arkadia. The total price was 800 ped for a lvl 2 apartment (Celeste North 12 Lvl 2). Now this is arkadia, but the same can happen on calypso. There was for approx 170 ped tt of stuff in the app at the time of purchase. This included a very cool coin. Basically the price was around 500-600 ped for the app with all TT and MU included I guess, which seemed fair to me. See screenies:

Upon me attempting to claim the apartment this warning appeared: "Estate can not be traded due to the following item: Assault Rifle (FA) (L) (This item can not be traded.)."

There also was a Medkit (L) in it so that would have caused a problem as well I imagine.

Now here it comes, I write support about the gun and go to work. When I come back home I see (as expected) no reply from support yet. I go to my apartment to look at the coin again and find the place raided, 11 nova aside and 5 curtains that are still hanging (forgotten probably). No coin either of course.

So basically it seems at this stage it is possible to buy even a castle and if the former owner has put an untradeable item in it he or she can use the estate forever and the deedholder has nothing but a virtual piece of paper. As the estates no longer seem to be needed to be set to restricted mode to enable trade I can only assume the former owners in fact still own the estate and everything in it...

Basically my advise is do not buy any estate that is furnished until this is resolved. Because all the stuff that is in it can be gone pretty soon after you hold the deed already!

As far as I am aware these items would have been returned back to the sellers inventory as the sale was for the apartment deed only.

In order for you to gain access to the apartment support will have moved all of the items back to the original avatars inventory / storage as they will be in the original avatars ITEMS. you can check your items on http://www.entropiauniverse.com and if it is an estate then it will state estate where your items are.

Unless you have communicated with the Seller to purchase the Items in the apartment then I would not assume that an apartment came furnished as In effect this is only an additional storage area for the land deed owner.

The Only item you have purchased from the auction is the land deed - the items have not been traded.

Support should remove items blocking you access to the land area - but I would say that the apartment will be unfurnished as the original items have not been traded in any way shape or form and will still show as belonging to the original avatar.

seems like an obvious bug too me so contacted OP for some more info, and as OP said you always needed to put the estate to "restricted access" before you can trade it and once it's restricted you cannot pick up or put things down in the estate even if you are the owner with no intention to sell it.

and with that said I'll move the thread over to bug reports

Hm, no I don't think it's worked that way for a long time, at least not for P2P trades. My wife has full control of her apartment (it's unrestricted) but we've traded the deed back and forth several times no problem.

(In theory) if the estate has been set to restricted then you're probably OK buying it furnished .... assuming there's no non-tradable item in it (but of course that is kind of impossible to know since things can be hidden).

Some appts can be placed on auction without setting 'restricted access'. This is a bug. Seen these appts several times

WOW sally a lot all of what you said is just wrong. As a person who has sold many deeds myself. Once the trade is done and you claim the deed at the terminal everything in the unit becomes the new deed holder’s property. Unless like what happen here, where there is an untradeable item in the apartment.

At this point even though you bought the deed and have it in your inventory the old owner still has ownership of it until you claim it at the estate deed terminal. Seeing how this new owner was unable to claim the deed due to the untradeable items the deed theoretically still belonged to the last owner. So they could come back and take all the items that were left in the apartment.

What needs to be done here is simple, the buyer has to personally contact the old owner (seller) and have him return the items to you if he will. He is the only person able to take stuff out and put stuff down until the new buyer claims the deed. This was not done here due to the untradeable items, I have heard of a scam like this before.
What happens is this a players puts his estate for sale in the AH for a high price because its furnished then upon receiving a bid they go a clean it out and stick the buyer with an empty apartment. Most of the time, they leave a pile of dung in the middle of the floor as a joke.

What I would suggest is this contact the seller to ask for the items back, if they refuse to return what was in there. I would let them know you have screen shots of what was in there when you bought it and that you are going to contact support and file a fraud claim against them. It’s a matter of integrity of the seller to give you the item in the apartment, but like I said before tectonically you are not the official owner until you claim the deed.

It does seem real fishy that you bought it was unable to claim it and the left to go to work came home and poof you been jacked. What I would have done is waited to see if the owner came to get the stuff after they got the message “you have just sold blah blah for 800 ped”. What people that pull this scam hope is that the new buyer does exactly what you just did contact support instead of them directly. Why because they know support sucks and by time you get a response there is nothing they can do.

The burden of proof lies upon you to prove you bought it with the items in the estate. Which like a smart person you did, also most of the time the scammers put themselves invisible or blocked. This is so you can’t pm them, thus forcing you to contact support and by the time you do you have been jacked.

I’m sorry this has happened to you but support will say something like all trades are final, but you have proof that when you bought it that it had items in it so those items should be return to you. Not sure they will but they should but I would also try contacting the seller too it might be a simple mistake of ooo Skippy you caught me my bad here is the items bad sorry dude.
