    Hello everyone.

To limit confusion a bit over graduation gifts the system has changed from how it was when we added in our own graduation gifts.

You now receive a graduation gift according to the planet you complete your graduation on and not the planet your avatar was born on.

Please notify your disciples that if they wish to get the Adjusted Musca armor they will need to graduate on Arkadia regardless of their starting planet.

This also means that the armor can now be received as a reward by any new player :)

    Regards,
    Chris

Although this is nice news for disciples graduating from now on, I'm still a bit puzzled as to why it was changed.
Wasn't the whole idea of an Arkadian armor as graduation gift, a way to show that you were born on Arkadia?

Just like the new soul-bound Smuggler armor will be a badge of honor discernible on sight, the Adjusted Musca showed everyone immediately that you were Arkadian born.
Now that meaning will be gone, and most people will just chose it for the stats or looks.
Making it just another generic armor.

No idea if this decision was from 'your' or 'their' side, although the latter would make more sense.
As it seems to go against the ideas expressed by the A-team.

Oh well, it's a done deal, so nothing to be gained by discussing it.
And for sure plenty of people will be happy with the change. Just like the first post already shows. ;)
But I for one find it a shame: the conscious decision to start over on Arkadia was build on several points, and this was one of them.

I believe it was the only way to fix the graduation bug issue that popped up shortly after we created the adjusted armor. With it not being bound to the player it does not really change anything with it being a type of honor item as anyone could have bought it from another player anyway.

The thing is, the armor is and always has been tradeable so there's no real badge of honor except in your own mind if you worked for it yourself. The way it was before was too confusing (nobody knew exactly who would get which armor if the disciple spent time on multiple planets). I think this is the way it should be... easy to understand. Glad to see the change. I expect to see a lot of caly disciples show up here for their graduation, that's the downside but of course may also be good for them to experience Ark.

Yes Neil, I know it's tradeable, and that was maybe not the best example to take, or the best explained.
But it is the feeling of earning your first real armor in the game by your own. That's a milestone of itself, and if that then also has a special meaning because it is from the planet you are born on, it only adding to that.
The fact that someone can buy it after that, doesn't change that for me. What does change is that there will be a lot more ingame, and they will become a lot more common.

And as I said, it will make a lot of people happy, so in the end it's probably for the better.
But that doesn't change the way I personally feel: I still can find it a shame, and I don't see anything wrong with expressing that?
Opinions are not automatically criticism on the game. ;)

I also didn't know the bug was so widespread, I only heard of one case. So yes, that makes a good reason to change it.
So thank you for answering that question Chris.

Do they get a vehicle, too?

And what do the mentors get? Hunter Mentor Edition armor parts? :p

    Hi,
Well said! (hope my REP got through ...)

Tbh, I'm happy about this decision. Since I arrived on Calypso at a time when there was nor space nor planets, I'm Calypso-born irrevocable. Even if I came to Arkadia in it's very early days, and haven't left it for a significant time since (I admit having been a week or four on Cyrene).
I tried to get this changed, no way. I made a poll that us older players (that never got the chance) could be able to "change planets" once at least, no way.
So I'm an alien here, a Calypsonian alien ...

For some strange reasons I never had accepted discipleship in all the years. A while ago, I found "The Perfect Mentor (tm)", and begun my "education", finally - I'll end my discipleship here on Arkadia one day, in the far future, for sure (not easy a task when you already have certain skills ...).

Now, graduating has become a new meaning, for me. I'll get the Arkadian Disciple armor at least, hooray! \o/ \o/ \o/
Not that I'd really need it (I already have a few full sets of classic armor) nor that I'd really love it (I cannot befriend myself with the special Arkadian designs), but it will be a priceless price for me - a visual sign helping me feeling at home more at my new home.

I'll skill harder now. I want this armor! And I'm very happy about this decision, as mentioned.

    Have a good time!

Wow Xandra, I really didn't think there were long time players that were still actively doing the discipleship.
It must be an incredibly arduous process on higher level skills. I wish you good luck in reaching graduation, and am happy for you that it will earn you the much desired Arkadian memento.

Basically we feel the same way, we were just born on different planets.
But obviously you managed to explain this feeling much better than I could. View attachment 8440
And thank you for sharing that side of the story.

On the practical side: someone in my society graduated less than a week ago. She had consciously chosen to be born on Arkadia, so she would get the Musca instead of the Pixie.
So while she happened to be on Calypso when she graduated, she had the conviction that she would get the Musca, by right of birth.
Unfortunately she is now the owner of a Pixie armor, much to her disappointment. (A support case has been submitted by her, although that often has proven to be a futile exercise.) That's a bit of an unfortunate turn of events.

So to reach all the players, (including freelancers/private persons) it might be nice if this kind of information is shown on a more visible/obvious place. Like the official site/PCF, or even on the Client Loader?

BTW, I'm not harping on the decision itself; but merely sharing a practical result I saw.

Oooh! I've just had an idea on this problem (I'm afraid I may have strained something in the process ;)). I've passed it on the the Ark devs to see what they think. Won't say any more for now though as I don't want to get peoples hopes up.

Will mentors have a chance on grabbing a nice item for graduation gift from Arkadia Raw-303 Mentor Edition etc? Or is this something that was in the old days?
