Greetings and welcome to the The Arkadia Image Festival! This is a competition open to all, and possible for all to compete in. And it's free to join! We start right now, enter by submiting your screenies/artwork in this thread. The DEADLINE, which is FINAL, is February 28, 2014. So what's it all about... simple enough really, it's about getting the best screenshots from beautiful planet Arkadia. There are 3 top prizes: Best scenery screenshot Best action screenshot Best promotional, edited image The best scenery is sort of obvious, go out there and catch a beach at sunset, fog in the mountains, or whatever takes your fancy. Best action is for screenies of, well, action. Hunting mobs, or hunting other players in PvP, load of players sweating, anything where SOMETHING is going on. Best promotional image... ANYTHING goes, as long as it's promoting Arkadia. Banners, posters, design for a T-shirt, whatever. There are some real artists here in EU, and they deserve a chance to show off their skills with Photoshop or whatever tools they love. It's hard to really reward people properly for all their time and enthusiasm in a screenie event. It would be great to be able to have a prize for every single entry - alas, unless I win some lottery, that wont happen. So. The team at Arkadia Studios has generously made a SPECIAL set of Limited BluePrints and they donate a set of 3 to each category's winner. Each BluePrint has 100 clicks. This is a image of what you can craft with the BluePrints: Best scenery screenshot 1.st prize: The Director's Set of 3 (L) Blueprints Best action screenshot 1.st prize: The Director's Set of 3 (L) Blueprints Best promotional, edited image 1.st prize: The Director's Set of 3 (L) Blueprints Best scenery screenshot 2. prize: 250 PED Best action screenshot 2. prize: 250 PED Best promotional, edited image 2. prize: 500 PED ADDED 23. JANUARY 2014: Best scenery screenshot 3. prize: 100 PED Best action screenshot 3. prize: 100 PED Best promotional, edited image 3. prize: 125 PED So finally some 3. prizes for all 3 categories added - in the end I thought cash PED is just as well - not very creative but money is always handy... Anyone can win several Prizes. It works like this: You can win ONE prize from each category, but NOT more than one Prize from a single category. Also, related to keeping things going and expanding - good for all of us I think - all screenies / artwork submitted in this competition must be "free of copyright". Effectively, anyone will be alloved to use any material submitted for banners or whatever, maybe Background images for society sites, etc and so forth. I ask anyone who use any material from this competition to kindly make a reference to the sourche, as far as possible-practical (might be hard in smaller icons or in banners, for example) ... cred to whomever did the art, but it's impractical to make that a legal demand so I just say - do the right thing. Maybe someone else would like to back this thing? That would be great, up the ante a bit in prizes. If so, perhaps a official Arkadia avatar could take the trouble to hold on to anything added to the Prizes untill the deadline and ceremony for rewarding winners. Someone neutral and universally trusted anyway. Oh and possibly a small but inexpensive chance for Landowners for some marketing, for example: "I own LAxxx and will add x PED to the winner if the screenie is taken in my LA". Just a thought. So who decides? I'd like to have 5 judges. At least one of them should be a fairly fresh Entropian, and at least two very experienced. None should be very close mates of mine, obviously. And I don't want them selected before the end of the event, as in after the final deadline. This will drag out the voting, I bet it will take about 2 weeks at least to get 5 proper judges sorted and having them all vote (from former experience). So, no set date for winners to be announced after the deadline - but I promise to get it done as fast as I can. If anyone has any input on how the competiton should be judged, please share. May Lootious see you all clearly! Best of luck, eras
I have been asked, can one post multiple Replies with images, and the answer is Yes - as many as you like. Just so that's clear. If anyone have any other questions, please post them here - in case more people are wondering, so all can read my answers! cheers, eras
Let me be the first one to post a picture for the contest. This is a scenery picture from Arkadia Land Area 6, that I discovered today. View attachment 8265
Here are some images I use for my Virool page on www.PEDtoClick.com, they are quite beautiful View attachment 8266 View attachment 8267 View attachment 8268 View attachment 8269 View attachment 8270 View attachment 8271
i love the 4th one the most, looks awesome, also im gonna make some screenies as soon as i finish my exams session ^,.:.,^
Just as a note, Venture Bros... This competition's wording states images from Arakdia, if I read it right. So it's unlikely that your submissions of Zychion Citadel (Calypso), Mothership Hangar Bay, etc will qualify, regardless of their quality. Come down to planet surface and take more epic shots here!
A really nice competition for the colonists, and a great way to showcase Arkadia. With very nice prices by the way (thank you Devs) A practical question: 'Best promotional, edited image', does this mean the other two categories (best scenery and action shot) are not to be edited in any way? Do they have to be 'as is'? Because I can imagine an action shot can be made to look more impressive by Photoshopping. But on the other hand, there is the little UI button that is impossible to click away. Cleaning that out might look nicer, but is that also 'editing'? In short: can the first two categories be edited, and if yes, how much is allowed? A small suggestion: Maybe it would be nice to have the judges pick the two or three best entries for each category, and then put those up for a vote? It might make the level of participation higher. And make people feel more involved in the whole process. Thanks for organizing this, it's nice to see an event that doesn't require 'uber' equipment. A small side note that is more forum related: I still can't see images when I'm not logged in, there is just the typed link showing. Normally that doesn't matter, but in this case it's a bit of a shame. Because new people, or players from other planets who are not members of this forum will not be able to see this showcase of great Arkadian screenshots. And I doubt they will sign up, just to be able to see the pictures. So is there a way to make pictures visible to visitors? Even if it is only for this thread? Otherwise isn't it just preaching to the choir? Or is it only me that can't see the images?
Hi May, Yes, best scenery and action shot are NOT to be edited. I'v done some screenies before, and allowing Edit makes, lets say, for debates and complications. But it's a thought, to make a screenie where all can be edited. That UI - should be allowed to remove BUT, maybe someone dont know how so to keep the field absolutely even, let it stay. Bit of a bother tho, personally I think MA should make it custom. Vote - very interesting. That might be good. I'l be pondering it, and please anyone else, read up on that and give input. Obvioulsy, total impartiallity is the aim here, when it comes to judging. Appreciate the posts, getting this started, and all input! Spec to Lizzy for First!!! cheers, eras
Good point. Its just a permission setting as far as I know. I'll review it when I get five mins to delve into the depths of the Admin Control Panel
Some Quick Picks...more to come I'm sure Question - will you be picking individual photos or the avatar with the best photos as the winners?
Well, I have used to let the images "rule". In this case, it will be voted for first and second in each of the 3 categories - and perhaps third if I come up with some prizes for that. This means that one person can win a prize in each category - I will not let one person win two or more prizes in one single category tho, I suppose I should specify this in the rules... So. Images will be judged, any one person can win prizes in all categories - but not more than one prize per person per category. Hope this makes sense And thanks for joining! cheers, eras
Arkadian Night Flora My first entry for the 'Best scenery screenshot' category: View attachment 8293 Arkadian Night Flora Since I'm not able to get in-game atm, I've got time to sort through the screenshots I took while collecting TP's on foot. This competition actually gave me the little push I needed to go walk around the map. Unfortunately I can't play on the highest (or even high) setting, so the screenshots will not have the sharpest quality possible. Also, maybe it would be nice to have all the entries collected in the OP, or in a album? So that you can look through each category, and see just the pictures, instead of wading (what will hopefully be at the end) a very long thread. This might also solve the 'no show' for visitors: only the album would need to have public view permission. And it would give an easy link to spread Arkadia around the net.
Moons over Arkadia My second entry for the "Best scenery screenshot" category: View attachment 8294 Moons over Arkadia I forgot to put it in last post, but I didn't want to edit it. Because then it wouldn't be clear if I changed the entered screenshot or not. So for transparency sake, I prefer to make a new post, and leave a post with an entry unedited. Nevertheless; my apologies for the double post.
Here is my shot View attachment 8295 Here is mine. Fly out of this mountain daily while grinding jori's.
The albums are linked to the Gallery which is currently offline. I've yet to play with settings allowing non members to see pictures but I will change it as soon as I can
Thanks all who have joined already! A very good start, some good images here And thanks Snape for looking into the Gallery issue, would be great if all images could show also for those not logged in. Cheers, eras
I looked at the settings earlier tonight when I had some spare time. It should be set now so that even non-registered or ppl not logged in should be able to see thumbnails and pictures.
Arkadian Green And third entry: View attachment 8299 Arkadian Green Unfortunately, since it's one of the first shots taken, I still hadn't figured out how to get rid of the mission tab. And thank you again Snape, for fixing the images. Didn't mean to take up your free time. But I have seen other events like this getting hardly any attention, so figured every little bit helps. By the way, talking about exposure: isn't this a nice thing for the Facebook page? I know it hasn't had much feed since Cyrus left, but it's still a good way to stay in contact with your audience, and have some publicity at the same time. And even though I personally don't do 'Facebook', I know that millions use it every day. Maybe an announcement of the 'Arkadia Image Event', and later on the eventual winning entries? Ok, I'll shut my bored face now.
