I have made an avatar on Calypso as that seemed (at the time) the most logical choice, since it has the biggest community/trade for a newbie. However since the 'summon scare' I started to delve in the forums, and found that Arkadia might be a better place for me after all.
Mainly because I've (only now) learned that the planet where you are born will continue to receive a percentage of your revenue, no matter where you are later on. But also because I can see here that the customer contact from Studio Arkadia is considerably better.

So my questions to the experienced Arkadians are:
1 - Would you recommend to delete the present avatar and make a new one on Arkadia?
2 - Is it possible in the first place to start/replace a new avatar/account?
3 - If so; how would I go about doing that? Since you are only allowed to have one avatar/account.

Btw I've only just arrived from the gateway so there wouldn't be much lost in time/skills/items.
    Thank you for any insights.

Whether or not it's a good idea depends a lot on how much you've invested in your avatar and your feelings about making a new one. That's just something you alone can decide. The 25% to the planet of your birth is meant to reward the planet that marketed and brought you into the universe.

As far as I know you're allowed to create a new avatar, but you would need to contact support and tell them to cancel your current account, then you could make a new one on the planet of your choice.

If you want to remake your avatar, you need to log a support call requesting your existing account be deleted. PErsonally I wouldn't worry about it. Play on the planet you want and let the planet partners worry about revenue. I am sure a number of avatars start on Arkadia and end up playing primarily on Caly, so it all evens out.

Your Caly origin will matter only in two cases - 1) when/if you graduate from discipleship, you'll get Adjusted Pixie instead of Adjusted Musca; 2) your holiday gifts (halloween, christmas, etc) will come from Caly, not Ark, so you'll need to visit Caly on those days to get them.

Arkadia wont bring a big change to you fortunes, it is learning on all Planets.
You are much better to just take a safe scheduled flight with a provider like EFA.MS Try Arkadia out then

Don't worry, I'm not thinking of relocating to Arkadia for big/easy fortunes; I know there is a steep learning curve reguardless the planet.
The main reason why I'm aiming for Arkadia is reflected in this quote from EntropiaPlanets Wiki:

"Furthermore the planet partner of your planet of origin will receive a part of the money you spend in EU, even if you spend it on another planet. You might wish that this part of the money you spent in EU will go to the planet you like the most and that way support the development of the planet."

So yeah, I'd like to make my tiny stand behind those who I feel do a better job in my eyes.
That's a purely personal choice of course, but certainly not initiated from a misguided fantasy of riches.
Quite the opposite: it will cost me some traveling peds, because due to the size of Calypso I'll probably still wind up spending a big part of the first month(s) there anyway (so CLD's will still see some peds/pecs). ;)

More OT: since I couldn't find a 'delete avatar' button, I wondered if I could just let it die by inactivity, while using a new account.
As I wasn't too keen to bother support for such a insignificant administrative matter, while they have (by the look of many forum posts) already a bigger workload than they can handle.
Judging by the comments however, it seems that's the the only way to manage.
Thank you for your responses, and for the information Svarog: I wasn't aware of that.

It won't die from inactivity. After 750 days all the items and skills will be deleted but the account still will exist and retain the peds (including the tt value of deleted items) and can be reactivated many years later. In any case you won't be able to use the same email (and banking info, if you already added it) again while the old account still exist.

But from what I heard in newbie zones, it's quite easy to just write the support and ask them to delete the account, people do it all the time for much less significant reasons (don't like the appearance of their avatars, chosen names, sex etc).

Ah, I didn't knew it could be reactivated many years later. I thought dead was deleted.

But anyway, as it's apparently not an issue, I did write to support for an account deletion.
(Although it still may be some time before I'm able to set foot on Arkadia,
since my modem seems to have picked this time to get the sniffles).

Merci; you've been a interplanetary help.

Hello May here too :) Hope you'll find Ark a nice place. I can't take the same step, having the account created 8 years ago. Also, I'm actually fond of all universe, not a particular planet. So I spread my activities on those which I like and try to support them this way.

We simply must stop meeting in places like this. [IMG]

MA has now deleted my account, unfortunately I still am waiting for a new modem to arrive, so I can play without being kicked off randomly every few minutes.
But once I'm (re)born on Arkadia I'm sure I'll run in on you during one of your universal travels. Who knows; maybe by then I can invite you for a drink in my apartment.

ps. To everybody who has been answering my questions: thank you.
Sadly I can't +rep anyone yet, so this will have to do for now: [IMG]

Nope as far as I know there is no fees to cancel an account. Its also advised to cancel the account if you want a new one, it will ensure that there is no future mishaps thinking you are running alt avatars.

Yeah, my account has been deleted, and there was no fee to pay.
Thank you for the correction; if I hadn't already done so, it could have given cause for hesitation.
Nice to see that my reasons for rebirth on Arkadia are justified.

    Problem with avatar naming.

    Next installment:
After finally receiving a (working) modem, I was more than ready to get ingame.
Because I could make a new account with the same info, I was sure the deletion went trough fine.

Alas, when I'm trying to get on the drop-ship to Arkadia, I can't name my avatar with my chosen name.
It's the same as the one that was deleted, so somebody else could have used it in the mean time.
However, I do get the 4 green check marks, the last one with the text: "The combination of names is unique and valid."
But after clicking to accept, it gives: "The name you have chosen is too similar to another avatar's name.
please change at least one of your names and try again.
    "
(I've tried logging in again, that didn't change anything.)

I can of course choose another name, but since my forum accounts are already in this name,
I'd rather first try to find if it's really taken or not.

So is there some mistake, is it not deleted, or did someone use this name already?
Since I can't see the players list from Genesis, I can't check it that way.
Or maybe am I not even capable of getting my avatar planet side by my clumsy self?
 Anybody has experienced this, or can give a clue?

Might be that support have locked the name temporarily, just a guess but try to contact them. And if your old case is closed then refer the that support case number so they can check everything.
But yeah seems strange it shows as valid at first.

Aw, I was almost hoping I did something stupid, that could be fixed immediately.
Or that someone would pop up: "I saw our name on the players list".
Or some other naive solution, since I was really hoping to play tonight.

But well, if it sounds strange to you too, I'll take your advise and hobble back to support.
Thanks for answering and the tip. Hopefully this time support will be faster.

Considering how 'smooth' my entering in this game has been, I'd almost start to think the cosmos is telling me not to play.
Maybe the cosmos doesn't like games about universes...

Sorry, as you can see I'm bored; (I thought I'd be playing by now) so I'm starting to write nonsense.
    Anyway, thanks for the response!

My guess is the name remains in the database (as an inactive account) and you can't use it with another avatar. Probably what's happening is the green checkmarks either don't work as advertised or they may not, be checking the inactive accounts. I would change your ava name slightly. It's easy to change your ava name on the forum (though you probably can't change your username), so I wouldn't worry about that part.

You might very well be right about that, however it's as you said a guess.
So I did send a support case anyway to be sure about what happened.

I don't want to change the name a little bit, and then find out someone really does have my old name,
causing us to have confusingly similar names.
Or make up a whole new name, and then find out the avatar just wasn't deleted yet, and I could have used the first name after all.

I would understand if before hand it was made clear you can't use a deleted name again.
But as it is not mentioned anywhere, it could also be just a bug, right?
So rather than being stuck with a second choice name for years to come, I prefer to do a little digging.

Thanks for the response and suggestions tough!
I know there are simpler solutions, and that I'm being finicky.
But as I said before: I'm bored > result = lotsa typing...

    Fixed!

    Huzaa, I received an answer:

Although it doesn't satisfy the inquisitive part of me; the rest is very glad that the problem is solved. [IMG]
And so much faster than the last time too.

So I'm officially un-bored now, and wont bother you with inane posts anymore.
(At least until the next time I bump into a newbie problem.)

Thanks again for the responses and help!
Even though it's smaller in size, this forum certainly is bigger in positive community contact than others that shall remain unnamed.

Glad they got it working for you. In the bigger picture, I would be concerned if they would allow recycling of deleted/banned avatar names, since the issue of reputation is important in EU. Obviously you owned both avatars so it's not an issue.
