Dear Dave/Cyrus/Chris In VU12.10 "Vehicles - Some vehicles now deteriorate when driven, this information is displayed in the vehicle’s item info panel. When a vehicle reaches minimum condition, the driver and all passengers will be ejected from the vehicle. These deterioration changes have been applied thus far to rookie, gift and other specialty vehicles, in order to ensure that Limited vehicles are indeed Limited and do not last indefinitely." We do appreciate that Limited vehicles should decay and need replacing, stimulating crafting etc. I haven't logged in yet, but I assume this is just the Rookie, Gift and Random vehicles so far and not the crafted ones. Now unless we want all L Hoverpods to be Orange, we need to protect players who use expensive textures/colours on L vehicles. As the number of UL vehicles is small. Maybe if say someone chooses to colour their HoverPod MK1 (L) Black. That is a big investment. If now this vehicle decays to min TT, what about the colour that is lost? How will the TT+MU be recovered? This is a tricky problem. As I say, unless everything is to be coloured Orange or the market value of all textures and colours becomes +1Ped protecting ones choice of texture and colour needs to be addressed or Arkadia is going to be very Orange. Cheers Bjorn
I would say the choice to colour or texture a limited item is one a player needs to be careful making, and from this point forward, paying to colour one black might not be such a smart decision. But I still think it's a decision a player should be free to make. Better than making them non-colourable, right?
I thought it was a little crazy that vehicles don't deterioriate with use. Everything else does. So I think this is the right move. However I do appreciate the potential impact on use of colouring and texturing and it is obviously going to piss some people off.
The way i read this is that only vehicles given out as part of rookie missions (such as the Exploration Hoverpod on Ark, the Valkyrie C1 on Caly and the Arctic Truck on Rock) or special areas such as the "Hunt the Thing" are the ones effected by this....and as far as I'm aware at this stage, those vehicles are not colourable anyway are they? So tbh, i really can't see an issue with this if my assumptions above are the case. However, i would agree that if this was to effect crafted vehicles that are colourable/textureable as well, then something would need to be worked out. Sadly though, ultimately, the responsibility and decision would stand with the owner of said vehicle.
I'm in cahoots with Snape's assumption. Though, I'm not really left with an easy feeling when the words "thus far" are included in MA's statement.
After some thought, yes since vehicles are used for something(?) we can probably expect them to "honor" their "thus far" statement and make this to all vehicles. (how to not make you need a new quad every other space trip you make tho is a serious question...) What I don't want or should see tho is the same things on clothes, furniture or any other decorative items, or they will kill off one more profession. And this incl ofc making these decorative things (L) or make them having a use like some suggested, it's decorative items and for the suggested uses we have already working items that provide that.
I'm okay with (L) vehicles eventually breaking over time, even crafted ones. It would boost the market for crafters. If they add it to crafted vehicles they need to make it very slow and make it so that vehicle textures/paints are applied to an attachment, like a make up mask for vehicles. You can attach it to a vehicle to transfer over your design (this would allow a lot of customization) from one vehicle of the same model to another. Essentially you would need one mask type per vehicle model, e.g. one for all Valkyries, one for all VTOLs, etc. That way the look can effectively be transferred from vehicle to vehicle, making a "make up" for vehicles profession very popular. I'm a firm believer that MMOs should always strive to expand the options available to the players, this would add another profession to the game: Vehicle Designer. It would share some skills with the makeup professions.
Jonny, I would agree with you to have a way to mask the vehicle would be great but what we need to look at here is also the drop rate of the bps for the vehicle’s if they are super rare like now then the price will shoot through the roof and then who will be able to buy them? If the drop rates are too much the value goes down unless the bps for all vehicle are UL, but with that being said you don’t want someone to get UL bps and sit on it and not craft it. Like a lot of the bps now from arkadia.
