how soon are the land areas going up for sale
and will it be through auction only that they are available for purchase
are there any "alternate" means whereby we may purchase a L.A.?

please no landareas! The game is expensive enough as it is without them already.

nah the best selection criteria i can think of is to give to someone with "GeorgeSkywalker" in their avatar name. It's nice and simple and fool proof :D

It's already been stated that there will be land areas.

Ahh of course! Makes so much sense :p

Actualy Deathifier already bought the first ones in the "8 Coins" complex with his investment so you might be a bit late....
Noone but the devs know when/where additional LAs will be available. However I would love to see some split up investments available at that time. I mean MA promised to do that for a long time now so it's about time that we see a system where ppl can make partial investments and get their cut of the taxes from MA.

I would love to see Landareas with a price tag of 10k peds~

Smaller ones, much much smaller with less content than the ones on Calypso atm.. but still it would be nice, I always wanted to get a land area, never had the power to save up to 200k peds tho :)

I wish there was a safe way of investing with others. I would love to start a venture to invest in an Arkadian LA with others (if I ever happened upon some PED), but I only trust a handful of people in EU. I assume most others are the same way way as well.

    :S

In all reality Larkin...MA or possibly even Planet Arkadian crew could set up a land area that you could buy percentages of... you go buy a percentage of said land and get that same percentage of the profits that land produces...no worries about others because MA or PA would be running the whole thing...seems like a good idea for an influx of money into game...*hint hint* ^_-

and by breaking it down like that the total of all the pieces sold could easily be worth more than selling one big chunk to one investor...

percentage shares are a start. however, it can get complicated.

first, you'll need an in-game mechanism to trade them. like, perhaps, an "exchange". it can work on offers and bids. 50% + 1 ownership gives control of the asset. so far so good, next is the hard part...

the same exchange needs to be able to fix a cap on the number of shares permitted to be issued. perhaps, this is a fixed number or some function value - however that might be calculated. the exchange then needs to report on the earnings of the asset against the expenses incurred. it'll have to pay automatically dividends, if any, to shareholders - likely when enough has been accumulated to actually pay something out. the exchange or the asset will have to have a mechanism to refund monies spend on expenses (fertilizer).

    some side effects include:

    1) what if a majority controlling interest abandons their responsibly?
    2) what if a minority controlling interest burns up any potential profit in expenses?
    3) are abandoned shares (for whatever reason) ever returned to the pool?

so, you'd need some way of voting for who will have control. the current society voting mechanism isn't that great.

anyways, so, there would have to be a whole system built-up. not that it's a bad thing, but it looks like a lot of work.

I think these two points are not really anything new. I mean we have quite some LA owners arround who kinda abandoned their LA. A share system would certainly not lead to a change to the worse. I think if the share system is in place there will be more ppl involved in the LA investment business who care about their land and want to get the most out of it. So I guess it would mean a change for the better to how the LAs are managed.

having someone who owns a LA at 100% abandon it is their own doing. having someone who owns 50%+1 share (and thus control of the area) abandon it is reall bad for the people holding the other 50%-1.

I never said a share system would be bad, in fact I think it would be very good. my point was just that it's a little more complicated to implement than it would appear on the surface.

Just make it so that actions are put to a vote, that way if the 50%+1 holder is MIA his/her shares abstain and the vote can pass or fail based on the other 50%-1 shares.

After hunting last night I can see that a bunch of LAs have already been set up apart from the ones owned by the Deathifier. (Check north of sanctuary cove for example). Question is what is the plan for release of these LAs to private ownership?

No I would not suggest you for the land area, since it's too costly. If you go for the land area obviously the game becomes more costly.

I should think LAs here will not be as expensive as Calypso as we have a much smaller population.
