OMG your kidding right ? So now only MS and Privateers with warp drives will be pilots and there is no hope in hell for a VTOL to play pilot. I guess this also means that the speed increase on ships only apply to MS and Privateers.
Well that will sure limit my travelling in a quad even more, from reading the release notes, guessing the new warp drives are only for motherships/privateers? Edit, reading Fopsie's post above, I always assumed vtols were never really meant to be space travelling vehicles, only 'local' space. Before they launched it, when the MA guys were showing off the vehicles that were to come, they showed us a vtol that was specifically named a space vtol etc (no idea if that is still coming at some point or it was dumped in favor of the all purpose thruster), and it was discussed about 'local' space versus long range travel etc. Pretty sure they never intended for even quads to be long range really either, but to go along with motherships etc.
Well this is another update and change im not all that happy about as the little guy yet again recieved the short end of the stick in this. All I can say is GL to all those whome bought Quads at insane prices to do some trading and piloting between planets because you will now likely become obsolete due to the warp drive of the MS and privateers atleast at piloting. edit. Wonder how this warpgate or whatever was in the reliese notes about warp will work. Will this make it simpler for pirates to trackdown a MS due to it having some sort of setout path giving atleast some hope back to the Quad owners. Guess someone with a MS or privateer will have to tell us exactly how the new system works.
Ah well I am not that worried about the traveling time as long as I can be AFK the whole journey. I just really hope that the FUEL cost has not increased. Obviously that change increases the need for a strong economy at the planet you stay on. I think that this change will further increase the gap between the MA owned Calypso and the rest of the Universe. So yeah gratz MA +50% income to you and screw the rest. *Now waiting for the change that everyone on a MS can be looted no matter if logged in or not to perfectionalize this.*
This should have gotten prefrance above all these other changes. Arf I can already see the potential posts coming on EF and calypso forum this but sins I have decided to basicaly not give a damn anymore about space and have already stopped my interplanetary trading and piloting im not going to join in on the discussions / flamming that will likely happen.
Im really pissed.. Not knowing anything about this change, i refused an offer for a seat in a soc m8's VTOL last night back to Ark.. Now I'll never get back to Arkadia.. At least not in my own VTOL.. Edit: Personal feeling removed..........
And if the visual range of ships is the same and it's the size of space that has been adjusted, then there won't be much problem with flying afk, you'll be much, much less likely to run into pirates in deep space.... unless there are too many mobs now. The new flight time will stink for passengers until the motherships get up and running, but I've always thought that space was too small compared to the size of planets.... If anyone needs a flight to Calypso, I'll be flying up today to check it out
I was cursing my luck when I had to log off before I could fly back to Arkadia, when visiting Calypso to buy some stuff from auc. Now I'm not that sure if I was that unlucky after all... might've not been that easy and cheap trip if had postponed that after VU. I can do one favor for Arkadians and check how much it takes fuel for a VTOL MK.1 to fly from Calypso to Arkadia. Haven't seen anyone mentioning fuel consumption per km (if that's changed too?) and how much oil it takes to travel between Arkadia and Calypso.
yeah, that sounds about right, I was going to say plan for 4x the amount of fuel (probably need only 3x)... this means any detours will be correspondingly longer too.
Quad fuel use got reduced from 1.85 oil/km to 0.9 oil/km and increased passive to 1.11 oil/min... VTOL Mk1 also got reduced for .55 oil/km /min.
guess taxi prices will go back up! lol i flew Caly to Ark thisafternoon, and one way trip in a VTOL took approx 1 - 1/2 hr takeoff to landing. as soon as you reach orbit tho you are instantly in pvp space. hope no pirates are camping the parking orbit.....
Judging by the space map's coordinates, the space hasn't got way bigger, MA just added 3 more server zones outside the old space, and moved the planets there. The speed of vehicles has been significantly decreased though.
The map makes it look that way, but no, the map is deceptive. Server zones have not changed, though the background starmap has changed and the locations of Crystal palace and FOMA have changed. There are still only 13 server zones in space (the region above Caly is a dead zone, you can't go there, though tbh I haven't actually tried since the new VU... but there is no revive there so I'm sure it's still a no-server zone). If you're saying they traverse space slower, that is true. But when you're actually up there flying, they're faster than before. Space has "expanded", so you can think of all objects being 1/4 the size they were before, the ships, the stations, everything, but ships now fly faster (2x?) than they did before. The net result is that quads "feel" much faster, and it's harder to maneuver in the quad in close range. It now feels more like a fighter than the Cessna it used to be. But because of the expansion of distance, it takes 2x the time to fly to Caly. Yes, prices ought to go up. However, not too significantly. For the moment, I am adding 3 ped to my current fees to account for the increased fuel use, bring the normal price of a trip to caly to 25 ped--which incidentally, is what the Calypso union pilots were charging before the update.
Alright, just now I flew from Ark to Caly with a passenger. I started the timer a minute or two late because I was a bit busy evading a red triangle at spawn point. So I added a minute or two to the actual time. Total time was approx. 30 minutes planet to planet. The trip included two station hops and another evade leaving caly station.
