After reading someone recommended a Flash based mapping tool called Oceanic, I went ahead and made an Arkadia version. There are still a lot of information we can add into this handy mapping tool. All input of valuable information are welcome.

Download the following:

Installation:
• Download all the files into a download location on your hard drive.
• Unzip the oceanic zip, copy those files into a sub directory, ie: c:\Entropia Universe\Oceanic
• Move the ArkadiaClean.png into your new Oceanic\images directory
• Move the two attached txt files into your new Oceanic\data directory
• Remove the two txt extensions and change them back to XML extension again.

When Oceania was mentioned in Neil's mining map thread, I took a look and found it pretty neat little tool. It does take a little "data mining", but once you understands how the data works, it is just a matter of plugging in the numbers.

I know that oceanic v.2 is on the way, though slowly, there will be support for multiple files selection, data update without restarting the tool and some more.

When it's ready I'll provide spawns as entries for oceanic2, spawn levels and loot will be displayed inside the info mini-window.

After that I'm going to make a thread in the map section where anyone will be able to download fresh up-to-date xml files for oceanic2 and will try to keep them up-to-date.

Anyone will be able to contribute, oceanic can be used to store community made: geographic maps with revivals/borders/TPs, ore distribution maps, spawn maps, LAs info, events info, quests info, anything you like.

And of course all your personal mining and hunting data, down to a single drop or lucky shot, if you want.

All of it will be split between different files for different types of maps or chunks of data available for downloading here on this forum.

I'm waiting for v2 release, hopefully it's gonna happen within a month or two.

I have humanwoman's blessing to represent oceanic on this forum, if you have any requests/questions PM me.

P.S.
All xml files (except some changes in config.xml) will be compatible with both versions, so thanks AttacKat for the first contribution! (just keep in mind that spawns are always rectangular in shape, not round, oriented strictly NSWE)

If you want to contribute in the form of oceanic xml files, you can start now, all your data will be used.

Endy, something you may want to pass on to the oceanic2 developer, is that there is a need for "grid" areas for miners. Many miners are welling to share info, but not the exact info. So say we divide Arkadia from a 3x3 server zones down to smaller 9x9, or even 18x18 zones, it will be nice if miner can just enter data for that given zone.

The way it is set up atm one will need to go into the entries xml and manually enter each zone borders, (18x18?) then enter the info into the notes section. A bit messy when you do it on a smaller grid area. We may even need to drop the area size down to 36x36.

There will be support for multiple files, so you'll be able to create a separate file for every server or server subzone mining, or for every mining run, and then to choose which files to load and display in oceanic.

Visual lines for server borders and for some subdivisions will be provided in a separate entry file, that I'm gonna make, so you could turn the grid on or off at will.

Still, what ever data you add to a file, the coordinates should be global, related to the whole map.

Hopefully, it'll be convenient enough.

Also, updated my previous post, that's for the first chunk of data!

Until version 2 happens, we still can only work with the current version. so, all the "future" talk will be moot.

Until then, I will keep verifying the data as I do my fly-bys of the mob zones. So for those of you that is using what I have now, please keep your eyes open for frequent entries xml updates.

As I stated in my note, circle mob zones are unverified and is as extracted based on Endy's map. For those of you that are wondering why the mob zones are in strange shapes, all I can offer is that is what I see from my radar and coord recorded as such as I do my fly-bys.

Anyone wishing to make corrections are welcome to post their findings here.

Hi ..

seems to be a good tool. And i'm verry thankfull for the done Work.
unfortunately i got some problems and dont understand a few things too.

1. How can i enter my own Data into the Maps...if i have some. Editing the EntriesFile seems not a comfortable way.
2. Whats the small lightblue Window for. Appears and dissappears with the "T" key. But seems not to have any function atm. Cant edit something in this window or what ever. It's just there

is this all buggy, or is it my missunderstanding in the way how to use The OCEANIC.

Thanx so far.
Its a worthfull thing for sure...if i can get it running. Was thinking myself in something like that but couldn't do it in such a fine and comfortable way.

Grats and thanx to U "CAT"

greets
Ruben

Ruben,

Yeah, it is a pretty good tool, but it wasn't written for anyone. Its data format does take a little bit of getting used to. If you refer back to the dev thread, you will see she (assuming she due to "humanwoman" nickname, lol) does have some examples on how the data is entered. Currently using a text editor and edit the entries.xml is the only way for you to add in your own data points to the mapping tool.

For our purposes, we are mainly interested in two types, points of interest (dots), or areas (poly), they are entered in the following ways:

<notes>New player exploration area</notes>

and

Everything is bracketed within the <entry ... /> or <entry ... >
, as defined by the XML syntax.

The "blue box" is for the "Notes" section you enter in your entry. From the above it is defined by
<notes>New player exploration area</notes>
in the multiline entry format.

If the data points you have are personal and not something you wish to share, then you will need to dig thru Humanwoman's explanations or via existing entries to figure out how to do it yourself. If the data points are something you like to share, you are welcome to just post the Lat/lon points here and I will incorporate it into my entries file for everyone to download.

Just ask if you got more questions ...

If you click some entry on the map, like TP or a spawn area, then the "blue window" will display information about the object you have clicked, the title and some notes, if they exist for the current entry

This is the original humanwoman's thread
