Hi A-team I was wondering what is the limits to the Scripting / AI system. Will it be possible to make roaming NPCs ? What im thinking is having storyline NPCs that roam around towns and doing their bussiness connected with the storyline. Example. The last part of the storyline there was a meeting between some of the soryline characters and they could have actualy been in a virtual meeting where we could witness them taking the meeting. A nother example would be diggers at the digsight seemingly going about their bussness of diging stuff up and placing it in bins or something. Or perhaps one of the Military characters actualy being at the frontline of the battle shouting out orders and blowing away special mobs that only they can damage (so players cant abuse the NPC to attack the mos and damage them to use less ammo to kill the mob. If this is possible it would add a new level of imersion into the storyline being able to see the behind the seens parts of the storyline actualy happening infront of your eyes. This may be able to go even further with NPC's actively roaming around in VTOLS and choppers flying imortant NPCs between firebasses and towns to do whatever bussiness they may have. Second part is what is the limitation in scripting mobs ? Can it be possible to have mobs attack other mobs, like a pack of Oro attacking Huon or something and tearing it appart (ether regular mobs or special mobs that players can not interact with) Anyway just a thought that I wanted to share
YES! I would love that! Thanks for writing it down so nicely!! Those "kill me i stand here" mobs are totaly lame. No herds, no life, no AI in the mobs... Mobs and NPC should actually do their stuff. They look like deco at the moment. Why can you just shoot some mobs and the other mobs just don´t care. Try that in RL... I would love some better AI on the Mobs or NPCs (i can´t give rep points.. so take some rep here )
Good question Fopsie. As it is currently we do not have the tools to make NPC's move around. However I 100% agree with what you are saying and I have asked MA to create the tools we need for this. However, I, like most of you want MA to finish older systems first, so I have not asked for this to be made a priority. Some of things I have asked for include: a mob when attacked calling for his friends to help him, NPC's that travel between towns, maybe as part of a mission you need to protect them, basic NPC's doing chores around the town. There is another tool we are waiting for that would bring all this to life and that is triggers. We can do some triggers by using the mission system, however that is an awkward work around. A trigger combined with a scripted NPC could allow us to spawn the NPC and have him walk over to you and engage with you (lots of other ways to use it ofc). Triggers also allow us to play music based on an event spawn a mob/group of mobs based on an action or entering an area and so on. Triggers will play a big part in making the instances a real adventure, things like a swinging rock you have to dodge need a trigger. Entropia is making good headway, I am very excited about where we can take it in the future.
Thanks for the speedy reply David and I fully agree that missing systems should have priority over this as some of them has been missing for over 2 years leaving those who specialized in those area's without any form of income. These missing systems also adds a bit of other eliments into the game making it a bit more enjoyable due to it being a bit more diverse. Hopefully we get the missing systems back soon and also get the triggers tool for the devs reliesed because I'm sure you will make something amazing come out of it PS when taming comes back please make those big snow cats tamable (think its Korwil)
You are really on the ball! These sound really neat and hopefully they do get implemented in the future (ofc after all the old systems are back)!
In appreciation for your continued transparency and non-condescending responses, I'm going to decay several full-TT tools. Thanks Dave.
Lol, sounds like a plan Puck Thanks for the post Fopsie, many ideas commonly in use in other mmos, and thanks Dave for the fast reply and encouraging words about things to look forward to in future
I too believe the future of EU will hold much good in it, and a very nice topic you made there fopsie. +rep
I myself can thing of a lot of cool things to do with this Trigger thing and I am not very creative, so imagine what a bunch of people who are can come up with
Hrmm.. that interesting to hear. The basic sandbox for Crysis uses triggers as its core system to do anything. Even things as simple as setting a unit to patrol a specific route is a simple operation in the sandbox. Not sure why Ma has all that locked out for use by PP's. then again.. I use it on a standalone system not an entire platform with multiple planets..but then again it is part of the base system so... Ill chalk it up to...Its MA who knows what the hell they think anymore.
Arkadia dev. team has some really good ideas...I hope there will be sufficient qualified programmers on MA's side to let them become reality! May it not take a couple of years to get them working w/o bugs after introduction @Dave: I really appreciate your regular updates and transparent information policy, that's highly welcomed! Nybras
