Cities/Settlements

    Hi all,

    I would really like it if your planet would have meaningful cities, with home-like designs. Make some unique things about certain cities like:

    - Trading center
    (where there would be like a town center with some booths close to TP)

    - History city (Should be a city where a newbie should be headed from the start, there could be like a Mob Museum etc.)

    - Arena City with an arena where players could go head to head and make events here (no a basic ring, but an actual big arena ;)

    - PVP City (Could be a city devided into like 4 zones, if a zone is controled by an avatar he will have 1 ped/min)

    - Fashion City (nice gardeny/flowery city with a komplex building which would be devided into 2 parts, with 2 different catwalks (then u wouldnt have to change the banners for shows etc. also this city could have like shops(parlors/colorers/tailoring) buildings that would be designed by you and could be sold via auction ))

    - Another PVP City with a track like in "Trackmania" where crazy pvp races could be held

    Buildings/Structures:

    - Arena
    - Clubs/Bars
    - Stages
    - Fashion (catwalks)
    - Museums
    - Airport(Arrival zone)
    - Temples
    - Shops(Small, Medium, Large)
    - Booths
    - Apartments (Small, Medium, Large)
    - Banks
    - Mall (One is enough imho)
    - Hangars
    - Auction Centers (Only auctioneer and storages at this place - make it look like it, not just a person standing)
    - Factories/Manufacture (make them machines look like they actually are for crafting and unique for each type of crafting)
    - Statues/Fountains/Gardens/Signs
    - Information Kiosk (NPC with important information in that area)

    I could go on, and on and on...
    ...I just want Settlments/Cities/Town with fricking meaning!!!

    No not like Port Atlantis (huge shitty city with LAG)
    Spread the buildings(apartments) around the whole planet, dont put like 4 HUGE apartments complexes a huge mall with million shops in one place and call it a city. I personally HATE that. Let players own estates in cities(small ones) make these cities like a HOME, not what FPC/MA did with Calypso.

    Well thats it from me,
    If you guys need any help, thoughts on how to make your planet more HOME-LIKE just ask, people would LOVE to help out. They dont like how the game is being ruined, when it has so much frickin potential.

    PLS guys, make Planet Arkadia my new HOME.

    I agree with you Juan. The cites that are on Calypso now are pretty lame as far as usefullness. Id like to see maybe a trading center where people as you say could have booths...but with one change. The booths would have a rental feature not ownership. First come frst serve would get to rent the booth per hour with all the normal features of regular booths. They would display the wares for people to see but not let them grab and run as if they were just laying on a table. That way scheduled flea markets could be run and be a way to promote special offers from the community and not effect the normal trade / auction market.

    Id rather not see "Apartment towers at all if possible. Id like things to be more like the old Minopolis where there were small houses packed in like a real town. IF / when Arkadia grabs enough population then Cites could start to build up like normal progression of a city. With the abolishment of rent small house ownership would be a key selling point provided there is a check set in place to prevent people from buying many appartments and just sitting on them. Maybe limit the number of houses one ava can own at any given period.

    As far as specialised places I think that should be determined by what the population that inhabits them make it. Forcing a pvp city or a fassion city (only using these as examples) to be only that will more then likely make them ghost towns like we see now over so much of Calypso.

    I do like the idea of a race track pvp area tho.. Carmageddon anyone? As long as I can have the icecream truck with the massive clown head on it.

    Hi TJ! Welcome to PAF. It's interesting to see that of the 6 suggestion's you've made, we're working on most of them; not entirely similar, but close nonetheless. It's still not the time to say exactly what yet, but I'll be posting up some screenies in the next few weeks. All I can say is the layout and placement of the apartments have been closely thought out.

    Im truly glad to hear that :) If you were/are a gamer, u know what I'm talking about. Cities on Planet Calypso are just too boring, most of the time its just one Center, and thats it... nothing special. It doesnt have to be fancy like Port Atlantis (thats just too fancy) just simple, yet a meaningful look is all players want.
    I truly hope u guys make my dream come true with PA :) Will probably be the first planet I'll visit, and hopefully stay there :)

    I do hope by replying fast on a new thread doesn't deter you guys from contributing more of your thoughts. Sometimes, because we've been working on it too closely, the obvious doesn't become too apparent. And we need a third perspective, a player perspective per se, to share their ideas so the obvious will be right smack in our eyes and we can't miss it.


    Hey Bill,

    At launch, there will not be massive Apartment towers in Arkadia. Like what I've previously mentioned, Arkadia is designed to evolve as the players get involved in it. The more players we have, the more apartments we have, although, maybe not apartment towers.

    I think what some people are thinking is this:EU has been around for a long time but Arkadia is brand new. Their towns will be small at first with private houses instead of big complexes. They wouldn't have been on the planet long enough yet for a big city to be built, and shouldn't. It's all about time-lines, as more people come and play there, the trading community will grow and the trade centers will as well. On a new colony, things are sparse to say the least, so that's the way it needs to look for a while, as things start to grow up around the small towns and slowly turn into citys.

    Another suggestion that I dont understand FPC not bringing into the game yet.

    As you might know there is Entropia Radio whice makes the game a lot more enjoyable. Seems to me that the community does a LOT for MA/FPC and they get nothing in return. Why not make a Stage for the DJ's? Where parties could be held?

    Whenever I think of something that would make this new planet more enjoyable for the gamers, I will post. Since no-one listens at FPC, might as well try you guys. Sure cant be worse :)

    Exactly Krm. The keyword here is Timeline. Alot of how much Planet Arkadia will be is reflected in the storyline.

    Wooot. Found the post I was looking for. Dave mentioned something here. :eek:

    Awesome idea guys. TBH, a radio booth for resident Arkadian Dee Jays was something we listed in our Idea Book during the first month of my career in Arkadia Studios. We have plans for this at a later stage of production but it won't be at launch.

    O, you didn't! ;)

    That's the city I like most, and if you don't like it I don't know what you like realy :confused:

    Honest answer? From calypso, I dont like any "city" :) They tried to make Port Atlantis interesting, but imho they overdone it. It looks too glossy much different then the rest of calypso... but they did try...

    That's fine that it won't be at launch. The main ideas and systems obviously should be focused on first. An amphitheater would just be a bonus that would be cool someday :D

    Hi True Juan,

    your post is one of the best I have read here. It is certainly spot on what I would like to see as well. Except for the part about Port Atlantis. I would love that city, if it wasn't for the fact that I have to turn my graphics down to medium to avoid the game crashing then I go there.

    Actually, I believe that each thing placed on the planet made by man must have a reason behind it. I mean, which goverment would build something unless it is used and wanted by their citizens?

    So rather, fewer places that have a meaning than many small locations just lying deserted in the wilderness. And a good way to give meaning to a place is to specialize it.

    Something I would definitely not like is alone service centers everywhere. We are on a new, unknown, planet. Most things out in the wilderness would probably be a fort, and one turrent does not a fort make.

    Actually for the first year at least there should be one major landing post where they first came. Maybe 5 archeological sites as outposts as the would be more then enough to keep the nerdy ones busy for a few years let alone resources to keep them running would be extremely limited for a while.

    I think most should be like the old umbranoid out posts that were scattered about north westish of Billy's and Chug's pre VU 10 at best.

    We are here for a rescue mission from the story line not to colonise like on Calypso so service centers scatterd about would not have been in the plan as major objectives. They would be at secure locations like the archeological digs and the main base to start.

    How about instead of a turret at outpost some militery npc's that shoot the mob (like a turret) and hand out missions at the same time (or instead of shouting, let them tell the civilans that it is dangerous out here and they should seek shelter).

    New Building/Structure to add: Information Kiosk

    NPC telling all the places of interest in the area(city). At the places that actually need it.

    One think I would like and have mentioned on several forums in multiple posts is to not have everything in every place. For example there is a auctioneer and storage at every outpost on Calypso since VU10. Because of that there is no need for people to go to different places because everything is everywhere.

    Some other thing is that we need random stuff (might have been mentioned here already). With that I mean stuff that is just sitting on the planet (crashed spaceships, old abandoned buildings and ruins, caves, weird rock formations, lakes, underwater caves. Some could have a story, but not all stories need to be easy to figure out. This way we will get speculations and myths about places (with some help of you guys to get us going). Part of what I liked when I started was all the stories. I remember talks about what the hell Chug's Hideout was and who Chug was and why he needed a hideout. Stuff like that is what makes the game fun. This way we,. the players, make the history.

    Just some building in the middle of nowhere with a flickering computer screen flashing some text or code that could be linked to why the planet was destroyed in the past, or maybe it is the solution to the Oratan problem, or..... well you get my point.

    Just little things that make it interesting
