    Hi.

If you are at space and see in your hud a red arrow moving.. What is that? Is a space mob as I hear about that? Or is a pirate ship and red is evil karma color?

    Greetings.

It's a (pirate) ship with bad karma.

It is a vehicle with bad Reputation.

The un nice thing is that is not only can be a pirate, but also a harmless pilot who buyed the vehicle via auction.
Vehicles can be RED, cause the previous owner was not very nice in space.

I sugest to chat the pilot to get info about his goals.

    Good luck in space ;)

So the bad karma is for the ship, not for the pilot. It was only my second trip with me driving the ship. I think was more secure change direction and save chat for nice day in Twin?

    Seems to work for both.

A ship gets a bad karma, I know since one of our soc members bought a VTOL and after spawning it it had the Rude tag.

Also passengers can change the karma tag on your ship when they enter.

So how it really works...nobody knows yet.

Hmmm, IMO the reputation (Pirate or otherwise) should be soley on the person owning the ship, not the ship itself and the reputation of passengers should not be able to affect ships they are being carried on...I'm pretty certain theres some kinks and bugs to be sorted out here...Time will tell i guess

and there doesnt seem to be any way to examine karma rating of a ship in auction so really are buying the rep blind

I dont think the Karma system makes a lot of difference as far as who to trust or not to trust. You could just as easily go up and shoot ten soc mates who have bad Karma to make your rating higher, or you could be goofing off in PVP with your mates and blow them up. Your Karma rating does nothing to show intent when you did the kills.
To me, it's a question of if you know the pilot of the other ship, and if you think you can trust him.

    Yes, you should practice.
You can avoid many shoots that way.
I usual always do a lidle greeting when i see others in space. (When im not to deep in Passenger p-chat.)

Well if the passenger can be allowed to shoot a gun then it isn't exactly incorrect.

If they've got a gun, they're considered crew, not passengers. :)

If passenger or "crew" member shoot only. Do the ship get bad karma. If it's a neutral ship that the crew member is firing upon?

Don't know specifically about that one yet, though I would suspect yes. It's "ship" karma, not pilot or gunner karma.

Also, the answers to the original question have not been entirely accurate. A red triangle in HUD appears to mean "enemy", not "pirate". So, if you are a pirate, all good karma ships should have red triangles and all bad karma ships blue. Neutral ships, I think, are always blue for everyone.

Just came across this thread and wanted to make an additional post about "that little red triangle" and Snape saying how he needed to "ask questions first and shoot later"....

    Be WARNED....

A common trick these days is to switch seats in the quad so the triangle turns BLUE...not red or green...but BLUE which gives the impression they are neutral and therefore safe.

Then when you head out, suddenly a red triangle appears behind you and shoots you down and you are like..WTH???

Well, you just got backdoored and sucker punched thanks to the karma system not working right.

What some/alot of pirates do is sit right next to the space stations in their spare seat showing a blue triangle and waiting for that next victim to pop out of the hatch, then they lock on, wait for them to enter PvP space and shift to the driver seat, flipping to a red triangle and away goes the kismet BOOM BOOM BOOM and you are half dead (or all dead) before you have a chance.

Its a dang good tactic and highly effective. But, its BUSTABLE if you simply take some time to FLY AROUND THE STATION and do a VISUAL of the area before you enter PvP space.

Just pop out, ignore the triangles totally and take a look see by doing a once (or thrice) drive around the station and if you see a known pirate...bump em and say "Hi Mr or Ms Pie Rat...not going to get me today...sorry" and then park or go back into the space station and wait (or lock on and turn your guns toward them and back out so if they come after you then you can at least duel them properly).

Most of the time, you can, with a little brain juice, avoid pirates.

And NEVER carry lootables in space....

The triangle tags have changed since this thread was posted (it has been 2 years!). MA decides to change them every few VUs so I guess the best advice is just ignore tag color. :)

    Heh at narfi and Neil.

Think the best advice is to find a Privateer or MS and pay for the warp or learn pirates by name and do the once or thrice around the space station...at least for now.

That and don't carry lootables into space if you can avoid it. :cowboy:
