During the Oro mission I started to think what the best method was to finish this mission in a fast way and as cheap as possible.

So this wil be my " How to " in completing this mission. And provide a good basis for newcomers ( and old comers) how to complete the missions in a eco way and maybe even turn it in a nice profit.

Step 1. Get the Mission ...DUH.
Okay (I assume you are a newbie) , first we need to start to figure out which weapon you want to use. From the Trade Terminal there are 5 options. The ASI-10 (blp pistol_, the ARK-10 (BLP rifle), the LAW-101 (laser rifle), the MAKO FAL-1 (sword) and the MANTA K-1 (knife)

To start with all are good and have the same eco stats and DPS. If you dont believe me check out entropedia.info for all the stats. So then you say " Faye but wot should I choose then ?" Well what ever you like. I myself started with pistol, then went rifle and now do a bit of melee. to make it simple

* Rifle, long range, somewhat slower to fire, more dmg a shot, bigger decay
* Pistol, Close range , higer rate of fire, lower dmg a shot then rifle, low decay
*Melee. Very close range, high rate of fire, more dmg a shot then rifle., no ammo but high decay.

Melee has the advantage to get faster HP increase then ranged combat, range on the other hand can take down targets from range

You see on the video a oro young is taken down at range with the TT ARK-10 Rifle +Rage 5 amp.

So which weapons gets you the best loot. I dont know. Serioulsy no one can answer that. I myself experience that switching gun mid run suddenly gets me more loot. Example during a mission i had the blp handgun and loot was bad. Because i couldnt find a new handgun i was forced to take a similair rifle. Suddenly my loot increased. Happend also when swithing to melee suddenly.

So in short experiment with your weapons dont be shy. If swords work for you then use swords, If handguns work for you then etc etc. Only thing i want to warn to you, look at the auction if there are enough follow up weapons. Swords tend to have low avability in auction. (same applies for other weapons fyi )

Step 2.
Once you have your gun , you need a Healing Device and Armor + some plates. (Yeah yeah i know somebody will scream do it naked with FAP possible but I kinda grind and watch youtube movies not to get bored)

I recommend the TT Armor Musca and 1A Plates for Oro. Then a young will get 1-3 dmg when it hits you and you can easily FAP that back. Ofc for FAp use the TT FAP-10.

1A Plates are avaible in auction and can be attached to your armor. They are also reapiarbale so make sure they are always 100% repaired.

Step3. Make a hunting sheet. Keep track of your loses and wins.
Here is an exampe
https://spreadsheets.google.com/spr...HlMR2t4eGFYaVM5T0FlNmFtbmZUTlE&hl=en_US#gid=0

This one can even track the decay on Limited armor so it serves you a lot.

Why keep track of everything? Well so you can see how much you lose/win in the long run. I experienced a lot that a run went bad and then the sheets proofed me wrong (other way around also). You will moslty noticed that in your sheet you see a 70-80% return rate which is also the base theory for the loot systems. (not getting too much in that fyi, PM me once ingame and i will explain)

Step 4

Enter all your data like ammo, armor, gun into the hunt sheet and go hunt !

Yeah Faye but how much ammo should I take ? I believe best result come from around 200 ped ammo. So with a LAW-101, Armor and FAP that will be around 213 ped all together. You may use Ampilfiers (arkadia has reall good ones) also track these in the hunt sheet.

Also make sure you have more money then that 200 ped. I recommend atleast having say 600 ped on card so you can do 3-4 hunts without selling anything.

Why 200 ped btw. Well it is a stupid believe from me but it also has a solid explantion to it. The longer you hunt the more chance you get in a good periode to loot nice stuff. Just look at it. At some hour your loot is great and it goes on and on and on. Then it suddenlys stops and you hit a bad periode. To overcome this and minimize your lose try to span hunts over longer time frames. Then the loot system will always try to balance the loot out for you.

Step 5. After the Hunt
Note everything down in the hunt sheet. Save your outcomes in a special archive sheet and keep hunting until your ped card says out. Save the loot from previous runs in the storage and build up a stack. This way you can sell better in auction and might even get some more peds because of the market value.

In the long run and done correct you will lose around 500-600 ped only and have about 72 hours of fun. Or when you get lucky you might even get profit on it you never know.

Just to add something about weapons - you may want to stay with one technology type, aka BLP, laser, or melee. This is more related to skill/profession gain, then about which weapon type being better then other; as well as being able to use both small and medium ammos from loot.

One mistake I made was I started with laser, but as a noob had no clue on where to get a laser pistol, so mid way after 270+ skill points into the skill, I switched to BLP weapons.

More details about this can be found here ... Tips and Tricks - Living as an Arkadian noob.

Love this thread. And big thanks for posting the hunting spreadsheet. I have heard you mention it a few times I didn't want to have to invent my own version. +rep

If you read carefuly I disagree with you there. I already noticed during test that switching to other weapons suddenly increased loot. I think this has to do with the loot formula. If you want to skill hardcore then yes you have a point but this is about how to do a mission and dont be shy to switch weapons suddenly.

By switching weapons, do you mean melee/blp/laser types, or just different weapons? My statement is about the technology. When I hunt, I do switch weapons, just that I stay with BLP rifle for long range and pistol for close range.

A few points: If you are using anything but TT weapons then an appropriate amp for the weapon (perhaps one of the old-school Calypso ones like the A101) may be a worthwhile investment. Why? Two reasons - first, you kill quicker which saves decay on the armour (yes, I know that also means less evade skills). This also reduces the ammo wasted on re-damaging the oro when it heals - oros regenerate quite quickly. Secondly, all weapons except the TT ones have MU and repairing a UL amp does not - obviously.

I'm currently using a 202 pistol and A104 amp. This never kills in one shot except when a critical comes up - which means no overkill, and overkill is wasted money. Which leads me to another point - finisher weapons. IMHO it's worth carrying around a basic low-damage weapon for the times when the target is almost dead; for oros a TT weapon would be useful. As it happens, I have a stock of Isis CB5 (L) that needs using up, so at the moment that gun suffices for that purpose. (Isis CB5 (L) is a basic BLP rifle that drops from low-end Calypso mobs, for those who don't know.)

Well sometimes when you think it aint overkill it is overkill. The amps from arkadia are quite good and I think it even best a A101 amp even with MU.

The Oro young is designed for low weapons like TT. The CAP-202 is a bit too much for the newbie in my eyes.

Your post encouraged me to get out there and finally finish stage two at least :) Interesting idea about switching weapons, can't say I've ever noticed it but then I don't often switch a lot, so have to give it a try.

It takes some time after you found your gun for a mob. I mostly need 5k kills to figure it out sometimes I cant figure it. Keep in mind it is also avatar based sk your milage will differ

Hi,

I'd not advise this to a newbie - and since the Oro missions are for these I'll explain:

It's because of the EU skilling system. Check for instance, the Wiki entrance of the LAW-101 laser rifle - unlike as in other games it's a wide variety of skills you'll get using it. Now have a look at the ARK-10, the BLP version: yes, quite a lot of the same skills involved!
Even the melee weapons share quite some skills with the ranged ones!

So, basically, you get better in BLP rifles even if you use a Laser pistol.

The other thing to consider is the price you pay for your weapons, especially the markup (MU). The only weapons you'll get without markup are the TT ones - these are the cheapest weapons you'll ever find (besides the ones you'll loot, for sure ...)!
So why not use them to get some cheap, basic skills? Skills acquired cheaper then with any other weapons, and many of them quite useful?

The third point is the need of a finisher weapon to avoid overkill, as Kinnison already mentioned. Later, when using bigger gear, you'll often be in the situation that just a bit of HP is left over at your prey, and using your "big gun [tm]" to finish it may result in a waste of ammo or decay.
Using a TT weapon (BLP pistol or knife?) for this helps to avoid unnecessarily spent money.

So my advice for any new player would be:

Use and maximize all & any of the weapons the TT offers. It's actually the cheapest way to get some basic skills, and you'll carry some of them with you all the times, later, even when hunting big game. There's always a nasty Oro young whacking on you while you extract your claim, or are getting into position for that huge dreaded monster over there, and using your "big gun [tm]" to 1-hit it might be fun, but will cost you precious PEC's.

There'd be another advantage doing it this way: You'd quite early get a feeling for all of the weaponry, and you'd be able to make a well thought decision of what you'll concentrate on for the future.
Nothing more annoying then starting to skill a certain kind of weapon, and then realizing it was a bad choice, after having spent a lot of time and money ...

For sure, after having done this, concentrating on a certain technology type is the way to go. As AttacKat said.

Have a good time!

And still you miss the point I make and still have a old mindset how things work. This is based vs loot/cheap mission. Not how to skill. So your post is in some way valid but complete useless for this " How to" Feel free to make another how to skill cheap.

This How to is how you can do the missions in the most cheapest way. And i found out that switching weapon can improve loot. I got 3 hofs to prove it and a bravo loot from a rippersnapper. I even based my entire Atroc mission with it and came out -100 (excluding a 10k hof) peds. Now show me any other atrox mission with those same results.

I am at 4th stage currently of Oro mission. Using about 7 laconian swords and 1 falcata sword. Each run. Laconian swords decay 4 ped each before they need to be repaired. And Falcata decay 5 ped before broken. Falcata = 2.5 pec per use. Laconian = 2 pec use.
Of course I tag creatures with my old trusty opalo. I also use The TT musca armor + 2a plates. (So i don't have to heal.) I'm old player. So don't really need more healing skills atm.
Each run is like 30 ped of decay. Total. takes about 30 min or so. Haven't counted how many I kill per run yet..

Do you think this is good setup Faye?

I would use the law 101 or the ark-10. Or my Opalo sga. But I wanna skill some melee.

to start i dont knw the Next island weapons. Second i cant say if the setup is good. You have to figure out if your setup is good for you because if differs from avatar. You can use the TT FAL-1 too I had great succes with it

Hehee, this is interesting because I am using the very same logic to recommend staying with one type of weapons. Why spend the TT for three sets of weapons when you can gain the same basic skills with only one set?

And hence my suggestion on a long range and short range. This allows you swap ammo usage as well between med to small - or use as much as possible from your loot. And currently on Arkadia, being able to swap ammo size is the only reason why I do not recommend lasers since there is no TT laser pistols available.

As for what Faye is saying about better loot with weapon switching, all I can say is loot drops is still being balance out by MA, so while his method may have solid stats on an established planet, it is not sure if the same exist for Arkadia atm.

IME, I do know I am getting better loots at the the latter part of my 3rd oro stage vs my initial 75 kills from the 1st stage. Maybe by the next 4800 kills, loot will be balanced. :p

Hi,

I apologize if you think that I was off topic here. Reason was this sentence of your OP (bold by me):
and AttacKat's "stay with one technology type".

While I think that starting with the Oro missions isn't the best choice for an absolute newcomer (they hit quite hard for a nOOb, I'd start with Carabok, then Halix), doing it with only one technology is even by far worse, IMHO.
Doing it with melee weapons only, for instance, is financial suicide - you'd be swarmed most of the time and suffer insane armor/FAP decay ...
Using only Laser/BLP would severely reduce the choice of weapons, and omit some useful skill gains.

But you are right, this is off topic here and should be discussed elsewhere.

For this I cannot comment.
Being melee from my beginning I always hunted with different weapons: rifle as tagger & when incoming, sword to whack down its HP, pistol/knife/powerfist/MF to finish, for every single mob.
And I even always carry 3 different full weapon sets to adjust to the current mob (hard - F1, medium - F2, easy - F3). And my panic Determination.

So I don't know if it improves my loot - to be honest, regarding your advice and my current hunting loot I'm not keen to check if using only one weapon would further minimize it ... ;-)))

Should there be a need to discuss the "what weapons" problem further I'd be happy to do this elsewhere, but not here anymore.

Have a good time, and happy Oro whacking!

There was no data in wiki about the hotfoot5 amp so not sure where you got this information.

I just did a fruit test on one and it's considerably worse than an a101, and once markup is factored then it's pretty horrific eco.

Decay on the amp is now in wiki so everyone can judge for themselves.
