Due to popular demand, I have created this thread to give the community a chance to interact directly with the Planet Arkadia Development Team. Please feel free to ask questions or share your ideas. They won't be checking this thread everyday, but will surely come by from time to time to reply. P.S Just a note. They won't be able to answer questions about the loot, loot theories and etc. as even these information are not shared to Planet Partners.
Hmmm...don't think so. Guess someone was too busy with Entropia Times to share some love. But well, after this weekend, Purple-ism will once again adorn the skies of Arkadia. Looking forward to the Dec issue!
indeed a great idea Cyrus, but so much info is already shared with us that I don;t have any questions for the Development Team, but that to me is a good thing. Sure I can ask for mob names and pics and all sorts of other stuff, but the way you are sharing stuff with us, I'm sure some things will be made public before launch when you see fit. We already got much more then I ever hoped for, so all I can say is keep up the good work and GO !!!!!! Development Team and the rest of the Arkadia A-Team !!!!
I am happy to report that the Dec issue of the magazine is a wrap, and we are ready to reveal it in the morning. Well, TheNun will reveal it in the morning - probably after she has her first cup of coffee. The Priest should give her breakfast in bed for all the work she does on the magazine with regard to design and layout. The E-Team has pulled through again, as we knew we would, and even added a couple more people to the Media Team along the way since last time. You'll be seeing my purpleness around here more often, and I can't wait to fly around the skies of Arkadia.
WOOT!!! Time to wind Mr. Feng Zhu up and get some eye candy here along with a creativity blurb on what is in the pipeline! A little more info updating how his initial ideas have evolved since he took on the Arkadia task and where that has led him to now in his thinking how the new world shall be would be a great kickoff to this forum section.
How the world looks when we first step foot on it...that'll be decided by the time-line they choose. If it's right after the conquering war , then it'll be dark and dangerous looking. If it's decades later, then it can look more soft and normal, but with things hidden all around to add the danger. If our world had a full scale war where outsiders came in to conquer it, how many things would we leave behind to kill as many of them as we could? It reminds me of a story from an old movie, if the last war was lost, then a supercomputer hidden underground would activate, scan the world for active silos, and then wait 30 days for the enemy to crawl out of their borrows and start cleaning up, then attack with everything left. It was called "Project Spoilsport" and it's exactly the kind of thinking people would have if they lost their world. Watch for mines, traps and drones that might still be active even years later.
That would be really neat. Off topic a bit; what was the name of that movie? I kinda want to watch it
Ah,man...you actually want me to remember the name after all these years? I'll give it some thought but I was surprised I remembered the story..but to be honest as an amateur writer, I liked the irony of it, that's the only reason I remembered that.
just read the newest article... Just read the latest article...several thousands of years old...how disappointing. It gives the planet company the right to eliminate every piece of technology that the Arkadians would have ever used and bring in the old, average EU stuff. I had hoped for much more 'treasure' to be found. And "Pots"? If they are a thousand years more advanced than us now, how many people do you know that have pots with pictographs on them? The ones in the museums are hundreds of years old NOW. And don't tell our history exactly, that's all regional, according to the person who made it back then. Sorry to say, sounds like the writer is stuck thinking about copying the Arcadian history from old earth history. Forgetting that they were a thousand years more advanced that us, so their archeological digs would be finding things that are old....but more advanced than what we have now. I know it's hard trying to picture things we don't even have yet for their 'archeology' but please try, that's what will make Arkadia special.Examples: 1) scanners that make medical scans and repair, like the ones we use on EU only better. 2) improvements to the transporters, perhaps even short range, personal transporter devices that we can use, to replace the 'super running' on EU 3)Arkadian guns that have the power of exploding ammo in pistols 4) 'personal shields' instead of armor..aka SGA style 5) anti-gravity packs (think jet-packs that let us fly over hostiles for short distances.) 6) vehicles that use solar power..that need to charge or use oil or some other material to run a generator,at night, these would be more like hovercrafts than wheeled vehicles, since wheels would be too old fashioned.(anti-gravity) 7) small spacecrafts for use in mining the wreckage around the planet..not meant for long range space flight, but just a model you see when you get in, and an 'open hud' that lets you see what around you in space, no severe details needed, like dials and gauges in a dash, just fuel/radar/distance to target/readout for scanner(iron/gold/titanium/electronics/etc) Just a few ideas right off the top of my head, so I'm sure your people can come up with dozens more even better.
Let me guess archeology isn't your thing? They are setting up a teleporter and are there for 5 minutes and you expect them to trip over loads of alien artifacts already?
As a matter of fact, I worked with a few archeologists and did some digging for things like old nails and rotted tools. But that's HERE and not a thousand years into the future. If the truth be told, a thousand years from now, if WE were gone, they'd be finding things we haven't even made yet, thousands of years destroy a lot of things. The only thing I said I was disappointed about was finding pots with writing on them. Unless the Arkadians made high-tech pottery for show, the things found sitting around an old base like that would have been things they used right before they died. That's all I was trying to say,if we were gone a thousand years from now, an archeologist would find things like your plastic cups and your keyboard and pieces of the machines we use in our everyday lives, that's what the archeologists would have found at that site, since it's a walled base they'd find things the last defenders used before they died.
to the staff... While I won't apologize for my opinion, I will apologize if anything I said may have upset the staff or the writers here. When I get something I believe in seriously in my head, I tend to get a little forceful about it...sorry.
Whos to say they didnt face ecological disaster like we face on Earth now? Maybe all the "technology" went to saving the planet and not into warmongering. The pots they found could tell alot..if clay based dating will be easy and by design how advanced. If metal.. maybe a new metal better then what we have now as its lasted thousands of years. Those pots could tell alot with a little more discription about them. Also they have not hit a big city mind you. That is where MOST of the technology would be centered. The outskirts are the suburb where us lowly less educated people live and have no need or finance for new tech. As far as asking the devs things.. Id like to know if when and how they can or will do underground stuff with the cryengine. So far I have only been able to work above sea level with it. A big question is if it even has this capability. I can build an area now then cover it at the end with rocks or wall / roof type materials but can not make actaual "Underground" with the landscape tools. (obviously what I have tool wise to work with is not what they have as its just the standard sandbox 2 from crysis that I use) I have seen long tunnels on RT so it must be somehow able to be done at least on a limited scale. Maybe a quick lesson on the sandbox could be made with a video showing a clue or two how things are done? (or is this dreaming and too much to ask for the "How to's" yet?)
I agree, however they wouldn;t find it untill they opened the front door of my house (ok house is probably gone by then), they can however stumble over my kids toys lying in the sandbox outside. I was just saying that they haven't even started looking yet. Besides i don't think the archeology fraction is very interested in new uses of the stuff they find, that is more for the military or big corporations that want to make money. I can imagine them finding something and with months of research on the technology it can be developed into something of your wishlist. I don't believe in finding alien stuff and being able to use it in a second.
I would like to be able to find alien technology and be able to use it on the spot. Please remember this is about a game and not reality. Thus reasism can allways be sacrificed to achieve smoother gameplay... BUT it is important that the whole thing is still believable. This could be achieved by for example alien technology which automaticaly starts to work again as it gets in touch with the atmosphere so the human (ur avatar) does not have to figure complex stuff out first. Just my thoughts on that topic ofc. If participiants need to figure stuff out for weeks/months then they will be long gone from the planet when it starts working. I believe NI shows this in a way even if the reason certain things don´t work there is of a differnt nature which we don´t discuss here.
Don't get me wrong, Arkadia will get live in a matter of months, so by then they should have all the cool new stuff, was just referring to the storyline
I also agree that you'd probably not get to use things immediately after picking them up....but we have repair terminals, so ...for a price...things could be repaired. Some could, some couldn't as it might be too heavily damaged, but then it could be used as parts for something else. That's the kind of thing I feel would be worth using a storage area for, holding parts until you find things to use them for.
krm398, always feel free to share your thoughts here, so long as its not a personal attack we welcome any discussion of the game (and just to be clear, I know you weren't attacking the team). I can't tell you what happens in the story next, but we know there was a civilization there and they found a pot. That doesn't mean there is nothing but pots It's great to hear everyone's input on this topic as it's not too late to share your ideas with the dev team.
I would love to be able to find Alien tech and evolve it and then connect it to some of the items we already have or may find on the planet. This would make my day. I always wondered why we cannot create more of our own creations using this engine??!! ;D
