Too friggin' bright, that's what's wrong with it. To help with the OP, I actually stood around at a TP for over four hours last night... yes, it was a slow night for me. I was actually waiting for dark... the sun set, and it became a grayish-dark. exactly one hour later, a white "haze" appeared on the horizon, and a small sun rose and stayed low in the sky for about an hour (medium daylight). During this period of time, the three moons were still visible in the sky. When that one hour pseudo-day began to end, the sunset was bright yellow and reds, and gave way to what I would call "full night", which again lasted about an hour. (I did some video filming during this time). I certainly have not confirmed the exact length of time of the cycles, but there is definitely two night cycles with an hour of light in between.
Seen the movie "Pitch Black" to often? heh... I dig the cycles. Fascinated to see if the cycles are intermittent, uneven.
I really like the idea of some kind of Torch...(there is another thread on this) and I like the night vision goggles idea. Flare gun seems fun but would probably be too short lived. Headlamp just seems a little too much...I don't like those things in RL. LOL
I really like the cycles! Already said this earlier but, not everyone has a dark monitor as a lot seem to have. Are you people using CRT's and very very old LCD/Plasma? I have ~4 LCD screens which are from 6 years old to 1 year old and they display night time perfectly without problems AND in windowed mode so no adjustments at all. It looks amazing and is well playable.
Hi, Fully agree! I don't get it what you guys love at it ... This is a video game. For sure it's the brightest (sic) idea at all to just make it unplayable for certain times, right ... Full dark night, complete black screen, in a game where there are no headlights or other reliable light sources - maybe we'll add winter, too, with some meters of snow drifts where we get stuck when not cautious? And very low temperatures so that 10 minutes outdoors your avatar freezes and you have to wait until spring, when it defrosts then? I just hate it. Once, ages ago, I played a game that had day & night in a fashion I could agree. Night had a different color there, slightly darker, but full view. Kind of bright moonlight. And it had different monsters at night, monsters not available during the day. This made sense for me. It doesn't make sense for me that I have to fiddle with gamma settings, or the brightness settings of my monitor to be able to play the game at all at certain times. This is, for me, kind of cheating already, and utterly annoying. Guess I should write me a "night-hack" that sets the monitor settings at a mouse-click ... And when I'm at it, a "veg-hack" too, to remove all that nasty bushes and trees, and then maybe - well, you get what I mean? I don't see any benefit in such an implementation. It's just a nasty annoyance, for me. And don't talk to me of "realism" in a game where I pick up my VTOL & put it in my pocket ... This is something I really dislike on Arkadia. On Calypso I had at least the possibility to TP over to the other continent. Here I have to "cheat", which still isn't the real fun to play then, or to log out until that friggin night is over ... Have a good time!
